Dog Bite

Dog Bite
Yesterday I made some bread pudding and did an extra one to give to my neighbour, Aniko, who has been very kind and helpful to me. I took the pudding round to her this afternoon. but when I went to their door, their dog came snapping at me and bit my ankle. It is a black terrior type dog which I have seen loose in the street so I had not expected it to bite. It only just broke the skin but Aniko put antiseptic and a plaster on the wound.
I didn't stay there long but had not been back in my own house many minutes when there was a knock on the door. It was Aniko and her mother, offering to drive me to the doctors for a vaccination. I declined their kind offer but I'm wondering if I should take the risk? If it had been a stray dog I would be worried about rabies but this is a well cared for pet. I have been bitten plenty of times by dogs in UK and never sufferred any infections or whatever.

By law (I believe), all dogs should be vaccinated against rabies each year. Ask your neighbour if this has been done. Even if not, I doubt you'd need a rabies jab from a well-cared for domestic dog.
