Makes sense to me, the shelves were stripped bare a couple of weeks ago.
That may well explain my findings today. I will be returning back next week when my other pension is paid. I will report back if the stock is pillaged then. We have been building up our food pantry for more than a year and probably have a 3 month supply of food. We have not horded stuff but are just trying to not get caught short. Most of our village neighbors are canning stuff from their gardens and have adequate food for a few months. Nothing wrong with being prepared.

I had similar experiences today a the Lidl and the Spar - shelves were full but not too many ciustomers around.
What I found strange:
Lots of toilet paper, sugar, flour and oil , but no mineral water and like last week - no yeast, neither fresh nor dry!
My wife won't do baking over the weekend so I bought some stuff like frozen pizza and Kaiserschmarren ...
Rather OT - for aduts only (I mean it!!!):
If you know and enjoyed the kamasutra then google coronasutra ...

I used the local bus to get into Nagykanizsa today. The front doors were sealed and you could only enter from the rear. The driver no longer collects cash fares and you are expected to download an app from the National Mobile Payment Plc website to buy tickets. Details at https://www.volanbusz.hu/hu/jegy-es-berlet/mobiljegy (in Hungarian only but it translates OK). On my return there was a lineup of local people in Nagykanizsa bus station buying tickets home for cash. This from a country who made a total pigs-ear of trying to set up an automatic fare collection system in Budapest, spending nearly 9 billion forint over 20 years with nothing to show for it! As I am over-65 I qualify for free basic fare travel; this will not change with Brexit, at least for now.

In Budapest, "at least for now" is about right, see below -

My wife said that us oldsters are supposed to go shopping up to 10 am - and young ones are forbidden to enter the stores until 10?
Well, I hope to get our favourite mineral water Szentkiraly for a special price on Monday morning and also my wife's favourite coffee Omnia ...
A sad thing that probably often happens here:
There are many old people (80 and more) living around here, often alone and we just heard that our neighbour was sent to hospital after lying in bed coughing for three days. We hope that she'll make it, but ...
PS:
We are both children of WW2 but we feel quite well, so ...
Wish everybody the very best!

I never thought that I'd be thankful one day for the Daily Mail's reporting - and debunking fake and dangerous news. But of course there are people who want to make money out of this, my favourite debunking site snopes.com reports ...

And now Boris Johnson has tested positive. Although we've suspected it for a few days.

Have spent a few hours trying to download / use this "simple" app / way of purchasing tickets ... using that link tells me that the service doesn't exist when I try to buy a ticket for a specific journey ! A young (24) year old tech savvy Hungarian friend of mine has been trying out on my behalf as well and has got nowhere with it so what chance do I have !!

I am already starting to hear of people getting sacked and there are rumours locally that even quite big concerns are in trouble,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, As in only two months worth of cash for wages.

Silence is deafening from those in power about whether they are going to actually help people? So, as long as Orban is comfortable the peasants can starve and get evicted eh? How about a nice new loan?

All well and good with the little curfew though the exceptions are amusing. If this goes on for more than a month I do wonder how many companies are going bust and mortgages being foreclosed.

Yes, I am cynical.

My neighbour also tried to use the simple app with the same results! The Nemzeti Mobilfizetési Zrt. app also has problems!

I can see the local bus turnaround point from my house and it has arrived and departed empty all day except for two old ladies in their 80's who went shopping this morning. We are already on a school holiday service and I am worried that Volánbusz "management" in far-off Budapest will axe rural services. They are not going to cover costs so they might as well let people travel free!

Two hours and lots of cursing, I finally managed to download the Volanbusz ticket app and jump through all of the hoops getting registered on it. Tried testing it as far as I could without actually buying a ticket, my village isn't listed but the nearest town, Lenti, which is where I go shopping, is listed ... so if I select the one ticket option, it tells me that it's 250 Forints ... but I know from paying on the bus that it's actually 370 Forints. It has also put my payment method as debit card ( my UK bank will be really happy processing 250 Forint debits ) but is showing a Forint balance of zero and has not asked me for any bank or debit card details during registration. Is it going to ask me for those during the first ticket purchase ... one time only ... each time ?? They could not have made it more complex if they had tried ... everywhere else seems to have installed a safety screen to protect the driver ... too simple for here I guess !!!

Yes, I am cynical.
Suddenly being on a pension doesn't seem such a bad thing!
I May not get any richer, but I know I am not suddenly going to find myself without an income.
