Re: Coronavirus

I am a little nervous because I guess like many on this forum I am in the high risk age range, and I'm also a smoker.
and for sure the situation is going to get worse before it gets better, plus no-one seems to know just how long that is going to be. but certainly well into the summer at the earliest.

Trying to educate the people that I must meet about 'social distancing' is not easy, they all still insist on sticking out their hand, and are quite offended when I refuse to shake it. i don't give a fig for their feelings, this is my health.
I live alone so can isolate quite easily IF I could convince people not to visit me, but they insist they have to come to check I am OK, I probably would be if they didn't visit!
Anyway,
I wish you all good health.

Re: Coronavirus

Big announcement coming at 5pm. Wonder what it will be.

If it is some kind of lockdown I wonder how many people will get shoved on un paid leave and not be able to pay rents or mortgages? I would be very surprised to see any of the Hungarian owned companies doing any kind of paid leave knowing the way they generally operate.

I suppose the other issue is someone on the normal wage level going to be able to afford to stock pile for a month or so? I am not sure we would be able........ And we are in a better position than a lot of people. Still, even if everything goes the way of Italy even next week we are pretty screwed.

We're waiting to find out what will be happening. In theory we can work from easily but there is a lot of security dependant software etc and I would imagine we would need a company computer to do this. I am expecting to have to go in for the forseeable. However, we can only wait and see and it is getting a little frustrating now.

Yup. Don't go to the doctor's, or a clinic, or a hospital, without first making an appointment by telephone.

Unless, obviously, you have some immediate life-threatening condition.

Looks like we may have to pull out of selling our UK house if corona virus gets worse and doesn't get better before end of May/early June. Hopefully, we will still be allowed to enter Hungary. My wife's father died at the weekend and it's not corona virus related as his physical and mental health had deteriorated quite quickly from December 2019. The family have decided they will hold a funeral service after we have arrived but in the mean time he will be cremated.

Daily News...."Hungary will close its borders for all passenger transport and only Hungarian citizens will be allowed to enter, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said on Monday"

I assume this will include all incoming flights such as UK ??????? we are not citizens but residents, a bit confusing.

it appears that people with residency cards will be allowed in as they don’t want to split up
families. How they will get here I don’t know as I have heard they are shutting down BP airport

I hope that is the situation because we do not want to hold up the sale of our UK house. There's one snag though. The removal service company guys may not be allowed to cross any borders but if commercial vehicles are allowed through then it should be okay. This would mean both my wife and myself flying out and arranging for our dog to be flown out too by a pet transporting company. I have liaised with one such company and they have stated they cannot guarantee our dog will be on the same flight as us! This might mean our dog would need looking after at Budapest airport until we arrive!

From a UK perspective I doubt if any UK removal service companies will be able to carry on their business because of the contact with possible victims of corona virus.

Wonder if Brexit deadline will be delayed due to negotiations not taking place although it could be done remotely.

Re: Coronavirus

It would appear that the border is closed to all except Hungarian citizens, parents of Hungarian citizens, spouses of Hungarian citizens and resident card holders from all other EU countries .... not sure where that would leave residents who have a property and business here if they come from a country outside of the EU though !
I would imagine that transport companies will continue as per normal .... you may wish to look at one particular company that get very good reviews often .... they are called Transport 4 Nederland .... they may well clarify if they are continuing as per normal.
As to an extension to the Brexit transition period, Boris has made it crystal clear that there absolutely will not be any extension !

Wittering on about nothing as per.

So, partial lock down in effect in Budapest. Still going to work though, a work from home solution has yet to be finalised. My company seem to be the only big tech company caught with its pants down over this.

If I can't work from home and they close down the office looks like unpaid leave for an unspecified amount of time then. Only got enough holiday days to cover 3 weeks or so. Assuming the worst. We have pretty much no wriggle room and are a month away from the kitchen garden becoming productive. Not enough laptops, and it looks like the software doesn't like peoples personal computer.

A lot of people are going to be long term screwed by this if the government don't step in. And that is despite the actual illness.
