Are the border crossings into Slovakia open?
#1
We've been wanting to take a trip into Slovakia but I read that most of the Hungary/Slovakia borders are closed due to foot and mouth. I know they were due to be reviewed on May 7 but the closures have been extended until June 30.
Are these closures for all traffic or just agricultural vehicles? How to people travel for work if they have to cross the border? The Bánréve or, at a push, Cered crossings are the ones we'd be interested in. Sachina?

From an article on the internet dated 8th April - FMD: New border closures on Slovak and Austrian routes | trans.info
The followingAccording to the Hungarian police, the following Slovak–Hungarian crossings have been completely closed:
The nonsense (IMO) is nothing has or is being done about the free roaming of the game which can transmit foot and mouth just as easily or more so than vehicles. (Stag, deer and wild boar can all get and carry the disease)

Bánréve to Kráľ is open both ways, there is a 'disinfection station' leaving Hungary which is just a case of slowly driving over some foam mats soaked in disinfectant.
Sloavak fire brigade are in charge of the mats, you won't be stopped or anything, just drive over the mats slowly else they flick up and the guy has to get off of his chair to set them straight again.

disinfection mats

the mat men

Peter, that's the article that I read but I just wondered how accurate it was. If all those border crossings are closed, how do people travel to work or do business? :/
Arkwright, thank you for that. So one can travel backwards and forwards. We may have a trip out.....if I have time.

The little back road crossing into Slovakia near me at Buzica was blocked off with with a large piece of concrete which allowed pedestrians to cross but not cars. Working people from either country had to arrange for someone from the other side to pick them up and transport then to and from work.
I understand but am not certain that the barrier has now been removed so that people can once more cross the border by car.

I also read that the border restrictions have been lifted, along with the Austrian border crossings, which is good news for me as I'm driving back to England tomorrow.

I have a British passport
I hadn't given any thought to the ETA so just looked it up now. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.

I set off back to England yesterday and there were no delays whatsoever at the Austrian border, only a slowing down of traffic, which was actually very light.
