Depends on the office I think. Kaposvar has been known to give out the address card on the same day - though this was going back a couple of years ago. They are supposed to be posted to the registered address, so a bit strange but apparently true. We got ours on the day of purchase though I think strings were pulled there and I think Klarika got both her cards on the same day. As with most things Hungarian, it's appears to be hit and miss depending on which area you are in.

Zalaegerzseg posts them out and they take 2-3 weeks to arrive.

If you use the search facility at the top of the page, you will find relevant information. I have merged this thread with the other Address card thread as otherwise, it becomes cluttered.

It was Zalaegerzseg who issued my address card but not until I applied for the residents card, several months after the house purchase.

Depends on the agent I suppose, ours was all done at the same time. As I said before, I think strings were pulled - won't go into details on here.

You generally apply for both at the same time, residency card is given on the day, address card posted out - at Zalaegerszeg anyhow.

Thanks for all the advice and the link to the earlier thread. Think we will just leave it and if we do spend more time in Hungary in the future, apply then. Cheers all.

Been to our local council office today Balatonszentygyorgy to apply for and "address card" and they have pointed us to Kaposvar and gave us a telephone number.

As far as a "residency permitt" does this mean you can freely go back and forth to UK and have a UK address as well without any complications?

Does anyone know what the building is called in Kaposvar where you get your address card from. I have it written from the Council Offices in the village, address looks like "Bevdudonban Sliratal Kapvosvar Uartelszdgollati Ivode 7400 Kaposvar Szechewp tor 3" please treat this as a forum quiz if you like.
Also do you have to give up your UK medical card when you apply for residency-thanks

I think it is listed on one of the address card threads, try searching for Kaposvar - if not, I'll have a look once I'm sorted here.

From NHS:
"The NHS is a residence-based healthcare system. Therefore, once you have moved permanently away from the UK you are no longer entitled to medical treatment under normal NHS rules.
You must notify your former GP so that you and your family can be removed from the NHS register.
You will also no longer be entitled to use your UK-issued European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) to access healthcare abroad."

Make sure you get the health side of things sorted as you never know when you will need it. We got the news yesterday that one of the children needs to see a lung specialist and it's not asthma and not who you would think - knocked us for six and shows that regards health you just never know!

Here is the up to date info on address card application in Kaposvar.
The address is: 7400 Kaposvár, Széchenyi tér 3.
Phone: 06 82 502-747 (kindly provided by a forum member)
Firstly you need 2 x 1000ft duty stamps if you both want a card, obtained at the Posta.
Passports
Copy of a bank statement with a regular monthly payment going in e.g pension, not more than 1 month old (we had a initial wasted journey cos ours was over 1 month and I didnt check)
Copy of a bank statement showing any savings, we provided everything including UK intrests.
We also took utility bills and our Sigma Duty document just in cased they asked.
The office is on the ground floor on the left are 3 cubicles, we spoke to a helpful female who spoke English. She gave us 2 forms to fill in handed over documents etc etc then after about 10 minutes she gave us 2 sheets of paper and asked us to come back in an hour.
Came back, put our specimen signatures on an small card and within 10 minutes she gave us our registration cards and said the address card will be sent within the next 2 weeks, thats it!!!.
I want to ask what does the registration card mean and what does the address card mean.
In previous posts I know you can with the address card, obtain H.P buy a Hungarian car, buy Hungarian Phone? (we have a Hungarian sim card from T Mobile without these documents). Is ther any more up to date things /benefits you have not mentioned with these cards.
Cheers.

Default Re: Address Cards

Everyone living in Hungary has an address card but only foreigners living here need a residents or registration card. You should carry both with you as you can be required to produce them. In terms of getting a phone, buying a car etc. I think the registration card would be good enough but the adress card would normally be produced. I recently applied for a Hungarian driving licence and they wanted both cards, my UK licence and my passport. I also had to go to the local doctor to get a certificate on my fitness to drive but it was just a sight test and blood pressure measurement.

Thanks Fidobsa

I will be registering my car as Hungarian next year but am a bit confused about the driving licence.
I have heard about an EU licence which will enable you to drive in the UK and Europe????
I assume that when you have a Hungarian registered vehicle you obviously need to have a Hungarian Licence and as you say have a medical, I will be asking next year how you do this as there are always helpful members who give factual info.
Cheers
