We Need An Audio/Video Engineers Help!!

Yes aware of this, plus I have a hard-drive/dvd recorder here anyway. The problem is the inability of either of these devices to de-code the Sky signal, meaning you must be tuned to the channel you want to record.
Time-slip and a lot of the other fancy bits are of limited interest here, although one's Goan friends do tend to turn up un-announced during a good film.
The big bonus is one touch recording, from the Sky TV Guide, and a list of previous recordings that tells you what's what.
The problem here is not a lack of English channels/programmes but a lack of decent ones! So the ability to scan through the next 3 days (used to be longer last year) and just hit the button when you see something you want to watch, strikes me as pretty cool, especially Monsoon time!
Was back for three weeks in November and beer-wise favoured Weatherspoons and Harvesters, lousy environment but good, cheap beer and half decent food at a fair price - also good heating systems! Weatherspoons even had a month long beer festival on, ( I am a real-ale lover) bless-em to bits!
When I got back here and looked at the (dedicated) beer-fridge full of samples that would render a horse unfit for work (known here as Belo, Bud, Kings etc), I decided to stop drinking altogether. Today is Day 37 and to be honest I dont miss it, but roll on May, visas, and Fullers London Pride et al !
Bumped into Lawrence, the owner, in Mapusa this morning and yes he has it available and maintains he is the only one locally. The deal is as per the Tata Sky Plus website/TV help button. Also bought my TV from him a couple of years back........one of the (almost) good guys.
May decide to sell my DVD/Hard Drive recorder-player, 80gb Hewlett Packard, pm if interested.
Regards

That site is really great, have saved it for future (possible) problems.
Do you know how to set up a "UK proxy server" please? I want it to enable me to get "i-player" etc on broadband to watch UK tv and I gather it has to be one that the BBC in particular recognise?
Thanks

I had been thinking of doing exactly that myself (or seting up a Slingbox), but I'm not sure my local broadband is fast enough.
The two obvious problems are having to leave a server running 24x7 in the UK and the need for a static ip address (or some way to tell when your dynamic one changes).
Loads of suggestions on the internet here - one of the most interesting ideas is to use a router with DD-WRT installed (pick up a cheap one on eBay if you don't want to mess around with your live setup - DD-WRT is public domain router software to replace the proprietary stuff).
DD-WRT includes an SSH server so you proxy through your router without needing a 'proper' computer running, it also supports DynDNS which gives you a way to work with a dynamic ip.
oops - looks like I just lived up to my 'Geek' title <bg>
