We Need An Audio/Video Engineers Help!!
We brought from the UK a DVD recorder, don't think they are available here, with the intention of recording from Tata Sky.
It was easier to carry over than to connect the leads, it is a nightmare. We have an assortment of coax, scart and RCA leads, in fact all the right leads but obviously not in the right order. Can anyone help. :thumbup:Any idea will be appreciated Thank you |

Re: We Need An Audio/Video Engineers Help!!
Hi Johnny five should have replied earlier but we had contacted an earlier reply and with some luck it may be sorted. Mailing each other at present, however if it does not work out may we please call back on your offer. We have looked into Tata plus but as the machine is now here would rather work with that. Thanks again for your offer to help.

Did you explore actually getting Sky Plus in Goa? J5 |
Re: We Need An Audio/Video Engineers Help!!
Oh yes but only since we arrived with this idea from last season. Tata sky suits us but not so keen on the sky plus.

Re: We Need An Audio/Video Engineers Help!!
For Hi.doc & a_f_d,
The reason I asked if you had actually tried to get Sky Plus installed (no answer so far) is; If you read the small print on their web-site, it clearly defines the parts of India where it is available..........Goa is not listed. I repeatedly emailed Tata Sky Plus (TSP) and received a string of automated replies and in the end had to get stroppy. This provoked a telephone call to my Registered Mobile Number (RMN) from a TSP operative. She said "No problem Sir, you just order it from Mumbai or somewhere else where it is available" When I asked how I could pay the considerable sums involved she suggested credit card, but when told I do not have one, she was at a loss. As this involves considerable sums; 1) Some sort of annual subscription to make the new digi-box affordable by availing of the approx 50% reduction 2) The reduced cost of the new digi-box totalling in excess of rs10,000 I personally would want to know that my money was safely handed to TSP and receipted. In fact, as the change-over simply involves unplugging the old box and plugging in the new (plus set-up of course) it would be nice to do it all in one go! So far I am stumped on this one? The advantages of the TSP system over a recorder are considerable and with channels like BBC Entertainment only broadcasting overnight, very useful. I have been using my recorder (it is hard-drive/DVD) since July and it is really useful, especially to zap adverts but the main limitation is that that your Sky box must be tuned to the channel you wish to record so you cant record one and view another. Connection was pretty easy, even with a local 5:1 sound system. By the way, I am aware there is a Tata Sky office at Porvorim but I have yet to encounter anyone there with Brain-cells in double figures. Any thoughts (helpful, that is)?:eek: Johnny Five volts off my USB :eek: |
Re: We Need An Audio/Video Engineers Help!!
Hi Johnny five, I had made some attempt to inquire about Sky plus still waiting from 2 store in Callengute to call back, but they obviously either don't know or can't be bothered. Have not gone any further with this as we have a machine that may copy onto a DVD and then we may be able to let others watch the films later. Thanks for your offered help in this.

All the shops in Mapusa just trotted out that Goan standard........."not possible", which in THE J5 KONKANI/ENGLISH DICTIONARY translates as........ "I'm sorry Sir, there is very little profit in this for us, and a certain degree of effort, so being genetically bone-idle, and not giving a Fiddlers ***** about your problem, we would suggest you go away and stuff your Paklo head up your Gandhu. Unless you would like to buy this overpriced Microwave, of course?:eek: Johnny Five lives left :eek: |

J5 imho there isn't that much programming available that we'd want to time-shift, and it's mostly repeated anyway. However the place we bought from (Elisha in Calangute iirc) had Sky+ advertised. AndyD 8-)# |

Johnny 5. I know you have a laptop but do you have Vista running on it ? Because it has windows media centre built in and there is a TV recording facility init.....no need for a digi recording box from Murdochs money making machine Tata Sky +. Just depends on how big your hard drive is. Happy Christmas from Islington. Its grey and miserable & Stella costs £3.30 a squirt.

Time-slip and a lot of the other fancy bits are of limited interest here, although one's Goan friends do tend to turn up un-announced during a good film. The big bonus is one touch recording, from the Sky TV Guide, and a list of previous recordings that tells you what's what. The problem here is not a lack of English channels/programmes but a lack of decent ones! So the ability to scan through the next 3 days (used to be longer last year) and just hit the button when you see something you want to watch, strikes me as pretty cool, especially Monsoon time! Was back for three weeks in November and beer-wise favoured Weatherspoons and Harvesters, lousy environment but good, cheap beer and half decent food at a fair price - also good heating systems! Weatherspoons even had a month long beer festival on, ( I am a real-ale lover) bless-em to bits! When I got back here and looked at the (dedicated) beer-fridge full of samples that would render a horse unfit for work (known here as Belo, Bud, Kings etc), I decided to stop drinking altogether. Today is Day 37 and to be honest I dont miss it, but roll on May, visas, and Fullers London Pride et al ! However the place we bought from (Elisha in Calangute iirc) had Sky+ advertised. AndyD 8-)# May decide to sell my DVD/Hard Drive recorder-player, 80gb Hewlett Packard, pm if interested. Regards :eek: Johnny Five channels too many :eek: |
Re: We Need An Audio/Video Engineers Help!!
Hi, agree with you about Wetherspoons (just about) and Fullers London Pride (definately) - tho' the Youngs at the Lamb in Lambs Conduit Street used to be the best pint I knew of in London.
cheers (_)? (_)? (_)? AndyD 8-)# |
