returned to Uk to get a new visa, was told this morning the rule has been changed and from the 5 th of january 3 months visa will only be issued and they would have to stay till march, their old visa is still valid and they were told the best thing they could is return and plead their case with the authorities here.... hopefully get an extension...... but that remains to be seen so they are flying home a week early and have spent nearly 2000 quid doing so...

The guys must be gutted. I guess they have had a 5X visa which is due to expire. I don`t envy them their chances of getting an extension. A friend tried for an extension to a 5x which resulted in a letter giving him 7 days to leave the country........

Oh great piles of steaming ordure!
This is really bad news.
So much for BHCI helping us - I had favoured the next meeting being in March but there is now a strong case for February - or at least some public comment from them.

P.S. 12 month visas are still mentioned on the visa fees page, but offering 3 month visas to property owners is a real p#$$er!

Which one DO you believe?:confused::confused:

None of us will know with any accuracy until we apply and receive our new visa's and until then, am not getting wound up about what might or might not happen.

As you say "not too much of a problem with two homes" we have lost our pension savings being, stupid to purchase, but I think those who sold up everything to live out here were even more nieve than those of us who purchased. None of us knew what the future held, but I would never have sold my family home.

Just wish I had had Douglas's crystal ball, especially with his investments. Wish he was still with us, I often wonder how his property issue worked out, hope he is happy in his new home.

Re: Visa help.

Has there been any more news about this? - I haven't seen anything about other people being given 3-month visas, and there is a post elsewhere about a long-term resident lady apparantly getting a visa extension from the MHA - I wondered if it was because she would be eligible for citizenship if she wanted it:

Citizenship by Naturalization

You can acquire Indian citizenship by naturalization if you have been a resident of India for twelve of the last fourteen years. In addition, you must have spent the twelve months preceding your application in India, without interruption.
... and Poppetjay said "well the lads have lived here for over 12 years had a buisness visa and 2 5 year visa's "
