Re: UNBIASED ADVICE ON GOA ISSUES....
GOAN FRIEND, firstly why are you on here are you a british expat? you appear as most goans we speak to and think that the british are wrong,
as for goa bashing as far i can see this is still a free country and you goans are always british bashing in more ways than one. let me just state re your comment that goans can not afford the property in goa because of us british 1. i bought from a goan builder and used a goan lawyer they both stated their price, i was happy i paid, (you goans set the prices not us) 2. when i go to market, go for a haircut, go for shopping anywhere i pay white man price usually 3 times more than you do, i do not whing or whine, i try to get the price a bit lower but pay. unlike in the uk where it is a standard price be you black white yellow NOW CAN YOU TELL ME IS IT ME THE BRITISH PERSON WHO IS AT WRONG!!!!! Q: WHO PUT UP THE PRICE? A: IT IS THE GOAN OR EVEN THE INDIAN THAT SET THIS PRICE BECAUSE THE COMMON CONSUMPTION APART FROM WHEN YOU ARE INSULTING US, IS THAT WE ARE ALL LOADED!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Re: UNBIASED ADVICE ON GOA ISSUES....
Hi to all especially our Goan Friend,
I have not involved myself in this discussion before now as I wanted to see where it would lead following our “Goan Friends†kind offer of “unbiased adviceâ€. A contradiction in terms here I think given recent posts. However I just couldn’t hold forth any longer. Whilst we probably all appreciate an offer such as this I think like most Goan regulars on the board I was a little suspect of the motives etc given the major problems we have all faced with property ownership in Goa. That said I think all on the board have acted quite properly in framing their responses to the initial post and I cant see any cause for complaint by “Goan Friend†Everything detailed in the other posts is true and feelings are very strong at this time for obvious reasons so I think he or she should bear this in mind when posting. These next few points are for our “friend†mainly to try and ram home the message that we are tired of being stolen from and ripped off. I bought a 1 bed flat in a complex for ordinary people, not a holiday flat, apartments for normal hard working people. Mostly Indians I,m afraid. These were built by Kurtarkar Ltd and consequently quite cheap. Reason for this was we wanted to be treated as ordinary people in a fairly ordinary complex, not elitist. After 4 years we sold up. Reasons for this were: Company lawyer failed to file yearly returns for 2005 and 2006 even though he said he had. Paid him for this and when a problem arose with the returns, when finally filed, we had no option but to sell. The problem was quite difficult to resolve and now we were above the “radar†so to speak so we sold. Next our Goan neighbours who did not work became our friends. Middle age brother and sister living in an apartment being paid for by their family. We brought them gifts such as books and chocolate and items for their dogs which they loved, and we paid them a small fee for doing some errands for us with regard to electricity and water bills. Anyway year before last we left them a signed cheque for an imminent electric bill. I didnt fill the amount in as I trusted them to do this when the bill came in. Also my long time friend “Joe Bloggs†had keys to the apartment and he oversaw everything and he spoke to our neighbours weekly. So what did they do?? They filled in the cheque for 12,000 rupees and cashed it. When we arrived in Goa 3 months later we saw this on the bank statement and confronted our neighbours. After half an hour they returned all the money to us. They also stole sheets and DVD,s. Finally a really good one for you. My friend “Joe Bloggs†has a house on a nice small estate near Colva. He has been visiting Goa for 20 years and he had adopted, but not formally, a Goan boy when he was 13. Tim and his wife took him in as they have no kids and when they were in the UK for 6mths each year this boy lived in “Joe Bloggs†house. This boy grew up got married and had children. He is now about 24 or 26 I think. Anyway my mate gave him money, £5k and he bought an apartment with this for his family. Trouble was he then sells this to a German for 20 lacs fraudulently and moves back in with “Joe Bloggsâ€and his wife. He then steals money from “Joe Bloggs†and then blackmails him for more money over some legal matters appertaining to the house ownership. This young man would have been left everything by my friend but he just couldn’t wait. We also paid this man for taxi services and we used him to go everywhere. We found out later he was over charging us as well. Anyway that is the sad tale of our time in Goa. When we were over in March we noticed a different atmosphere or feeling towards us and we were hassled even more than ever. Everyone wanted something from you, even our Goan neighbours who had stolen from us the year before. Goa is a lovely place and we may well go across next year but with regard to the people I will never ever trust one of them. They think we are all stinking rich and that we have a duty to distribute this wealth throughout Goa to whoever asks for it. They just don’t care that 99% of us are hard working people who have saved hard and long for the money used to visit Goa. I am 55 years old and have just had to take a 10% salary cut as our company is in the crap. My salary now is well below £20k a year. So there you are, no wonder we are bitter!!!!! |
Re: UNBIASED ADVICE ON GOA ISSUES....
dear femaleingoa,
i am not a british expat. but i dont see why you should have a problem with that. if the moderators have a problem with this, let them ask me to leave. yes, i said you drove the prices up which is fact. now i am torn between arguing you on this point or sticking to the point of my thread which is offering advice. anyway, i don't think it neccessary to argue with you because this not what i have started this thread. so if you have anything that i can help you with, please ask or forget it. but before i sign off, i will tell you these two things. 1. if a customer is offering me rs50 for something and someone else offers me rs3000 for the same item...do you want a prize for guessing which customer i will sell to? 2. secondly, if i go to delhi to chennai or even bangkok for that matter. once they know i am a tourist the price automatically rises 3 times the normal price. have you not travelled abroad and experienced this? and wat better way to identify you as a tourist in india than your white skin. the same thing happens to me in singapore as well.. so u see, this is not unique to Goa. point made i think... |

you said in a statement about taking action against the advocates and builders! ok if we do that it will first cost us alot of money, which i for one havent got to spare now due to having to go back and froth to get a 6 month tourist visa! 2 we make waves like taking goans to court we may not get a visa!and dont tell me this dosent happen because we have first hand proof it does. 3 we will have to announce where we live not a good idea in light of whats happening to various FN and our friends getting threatened and beaten by angry and jealous people out there, so that idea is just a pipe dream !!!! As i said before the British foreigners office refuse to comment on any thing to do with the property situation. top lawyers in Goa dont know what to do. so please tell me how can you advise any of us, unless you know something we dont know if you do we are all in the same boat one way or another so spill the beans tell us !!!!!!! how can i give generic advise when everyones situation is different? there is no common quick fix solution to everything. i asked you a question earlier..... did you execute an 'agreement to sell' with a builder before your purchased your property or flat? if you did what kind of a visa were you on at that time? well? |

So there you are, no wonder we are bitter!!!!! i have no doubt that you are bitter and hurt. and i have no doubt that you are tired of being ripped off and hurt. my 'recent post' were in response to me and all goans and indians being targetted by xenophobic indivuiduals like jose1. no need to suspect my motives. i have not asked any1 for anything. i a not going to ask any1 for anything. i honestly feel that the responses and insights i give have rubbed some people off the wrong way because they cannot face the reality of what i have told them. i have also unwittingly become a punching bag in this forum. but thats ok. i'm not in your position and i am very empathetic to all of you. the point i am trying to make is you would hae encountered the same problems elsewhere in the world. you have told me a couple of good stories. about the first one, would you have given a blank cheque a friend that you made in similar circumstances in the UK? if that friend betryed you in the same way would you be cribbing about Brits that way? what i am trying to say is that he turned out to be an untrustworthy person. this has become an issue because he was an indian. what if he was brit? or are you implying that a brit would never do something like that? second story. i feel bad about your friend. but every second family in goa has brothers sisters mothers fathers fighting for property and cheating each other. i dare say this goes on everywhere in the world as well. even in the UK. am i wrong. ok..'joe bloggs' is a despicable man and your friend might have been a bad judge of character. again since they are different races, again, the goan is painted black. what i'm trying to say people is that what is happening here can happen anywhere in the world. of course this does not justify the 2 stories above. it just means in these cases the bad people happen to be goan. as such, entire goan name should not be blackedned by the victims... thank you |

I can understand that going alone in a legal battle will cost a hell lot of money & time ofcourse. Why cant ALL the F.N's join forces together the way they have done for signing the petition and fight legally as a single entity against the corrupt lawyers / builders & agents etc or are some really scared of getting exposed for possibly colluding with the builders & lawyers in the first place ... juz to get a place under the sun??? possibly you can use a non indian lawyer & file a case outside India (i am not too sure if this is possible). I am strongly of the opinion that F.N's who are investigated by DOE & found to be innocent MUST be allowed to RETAIN OR SELL IMMEDIATELY (if they wish to) and leave (if they want to) ... investigations must be settled at the earliest possible ... it would be sad to see people going back with a bitter taste which was till some time back a sweet & harmonius relationship between the goans & the F.N's ... GOANS would always welcome you back with open arms ... EVERY GOAN IS NOT CORRUPT NOR DO THEY ONLY WANT YOUR MONEY ... A TRUE GOAN KNOWS WHAT IT IS TO BE A GOAN & THE SPIRIT OF GOA... HOW TO TREAT A GUEST & BE A FRIEND. U SIMPLY CANNOT SAY THAT ALL GOANS ARE THE SAME ... ARE ALL THE F.N'S THE SAME ??? I have read enough thru buyer beware & other threads too ... If so many of the F.N's are dead against the Goans (some call them goons) and Goa in general than why do they care about the VISA issuance ... why do they want to come back again & again (given the fact that they feel going legally against the goans might jeopardise there chances of getting a visa in the first place) ... is it only the cheap beer ... da free sun ... or sum thing more (drugs etc.) Once the case has been settled you can lodge claims and get your money back ... I do understand that maintaining the property would be an issue but you can always work it out. EVERY SINGLE TOURIST IS WELCOME BE IT A F.N OR DOMESTIC & I DO AGREE THAT MANY GOANS HAVE FORGOTTEN WHAT THEIR VALUES WERE ... ITS DISHEARTENING TO SEE GOA & GOANS GET A BAD NAME but yes we earned it in the first place due to some short sighted and selfish individuals. I hope this property mess is sorted out at the earliest and people come to enjoy Goa for what it has to offer ... the sun & the beaches ... music & food ... the warmth & love ... Respect ... Love & Peace to everyone who's been hurt (emotionally & financially) in this property fiasco and wishing you all LUCK and may God bless everyone who is not in the wrong. |
Re: UNBIASED ADVICE ON GOA ISSUES....
Hi Everyone
Following the thread, I cannot help but put my views across. (SNIP) We can all see Goa_Friend who is trying to help and advice in any which way he can, is ganged upon. He has spelt out the beans very clearly, if people have bought their properties legally and above board, then, they have nothing to worry about. But they will have to wait. Things will be sorted out in due course, but at the time and discretion of Goan Govt. Probably they have more pressing problems than the one in question. They will not act to your pressure and rantings. We see the petition route taken, but the corrupt UK ministers are all trying to save their own necks at the moment, from the Expenses scandal. Heads are rolling everyday and I doubt if they have the time or inclination to hear anybody else's stories. Anyway best of luck and wishes. As for Goan_Friend, 'Butterflies do not sit on crape, only flies do, so go find yourself a good flower. :rofl::rofl::rofl: |

Re: UNBIASED ADVICE ON GOA ISSUES....
sam_k;
That was an excellent post and i cannot agree with you more. In fact there every word u said makes sense. To add to what you said, it might not be possible to fight all cases together cos each case is unique. another point is all lawyers can be reported to the bar council of india for malpractiCe. In goa the bar the council sits at altinho. If any1 is interested i can get them the details. Also, do a bit of research. Every lawyer has his enemy. Hire their enemies to lodge malpractice suits against them. They would fight your cases for free |
Re: UNBIASED ADVICE ON GOA ISSUES....
This is just an interim comment following the response to dj53's equally well put post;
I felt that was a well written, balanced and articulate reply, and know very few native Englishmen who could produce similar. I am really glad that I deleted my post earlier in this thread.................... Thank you "KIDO" for lowering the tone of the thread again, with your unecessary and inflamatory post. |
Re: UNBIASED ADVICE ON GOA ISSUES....
how can lawyers knowingly allow FN's to buy property when they (lawyers) know it is illegal. Even if they claim that the FN's knowingly acted illegally then as lawyers they are legally and morally bound to stop such a deed from going through.
Am i not right in thinking this? So why are FN's sitting and tearing their hair out but not doing anything about the lawyersand builders and registrars? One more suggestion, if know of anyone else who has been misled by your lawyer then cjoin them. Put an ad out in the paper. Scare him. Call on on his clients to join hands. Then see how they crack! |

Hell Fire! can't a girl have time out for shopping - Will have to have a good read of the threads, see Mitzy has been helping out. Thanks
You might not agree, with other peoples opinions, but it defeats the whole purpose of an open forum if everybody cannot express their opinion. |

You might not agree, with other peoples opinions, but it defeats the whole purpose of an open forum if everybody cannot express their opinion. You came with good intentions - but I cannot see how you can help us when the Advocates have failed. Everybody carry on with this thread if you like but please respect one another. and I would refer you all to the rules. |
