Which restaurant would you avoid returning to, and why?

Can't remember the name but a chinese restaurant in Portland. They were busted by the health department for chopping vegetables on the bare floor.

The Stone house Candolim.

Music toooo loud, dire service and food dreadful, a veg au gratin that looked more like a chunky veg soup that had never seen cheese or a grill or oven, and the worst greek salad your ever seen.

Agree with you we went twice, first time was o.k. waited a few years returned, loud music, terrible service, and then a rat ran over my foot. Sat there for 40 mins to pay, I left OH there and walked out.

Anywhere I might be with my children is a place to avoid !

I remember one time a few years back when we were in Laos on holiday . Myself and my children had all got food poisoning that started on the train up from Bangkok . We were in a restaurant by the river in the capital Vientene when my son told me that he had done a pooh . I look down and see what I can only call a big puddle of shit on the floor under the table . I took my son to the toilet to clean him up and my wife tried to get some newspaper from the staff . They thought it was puke and wanted to clean it up themselves . I just left some money on the table and we got out quick . We spent about three days holed up in a hotel , not a good time . I've never been back to that restaurant again .

Two places I would avoid returning to :

1. The Mermaid in Candolim - went there and ordered a steak meal but asked for them to remove a veg accompaniment on plate due to allergy - which they point blank refused to do - and the owner then came and told me they "are too busy to make changes just for you" and told me that to serve this without the veg would "cost me an extra 50 rupees for them going to so much trouble"! This was followed by the worst restaurent service I have ever experienced in any place in the world - and all I had asked them to do was to not put a portion of veg on my plate with my meal - hardly difficult!! Steak was also cheap cut and like shoeleather and they had some long tailed rodent scuttling around close by the kitchen !
To sum up this is a shxt restaurant that is run by an arrogant money grabbing bxtch who serves shxt food and delivers even more shxt service whilst charging over the odds to do so !! Go there at your peril as I have also known several people who haver had extree food poisoning following eating there!

2. Beware of steak at Suza Lobos Calangute - I was served what they claim was steak and it tasted nothing like any steak I have ever tasted!! A couple of other people I know have also said the same so I am left wondering quite what meat they were serving me. Whatever it was tasted vile and I could not eat it.

Well folks - you did ask....

I would avoid La Plage like La Plague..its over priced, unfriendly and not French at all. Just because there is a chance that you might be sitting next to some aspiring Bollywood star they think they can charge what they like. When I said a cheery Bonsoir to the owner he didnt even look up as he was too busy counting the evenings takings! Mon Dieu..customer service!

It is like so many other eateries, they rest on their laurels, take us for granted. We all know we will have to return to our favourites this season to see if they are up to their usual standard, or to see if the Chef has changed.

Spot on - some of these places start out absolutely fantastic - and nothing is too much for their customers. Then as soon as they become successful and busy they treat you like crap. What amazes me is despite this people still keep going back to them - yet moan incessantly at the service and quality.
People if you get shxt service or food in a restaurent - simple don;t go there again and stop lining these peoples' pockets. If more people did this standards would improve.

You could do that, if pushed, couldn't you Dread?

Taking your trade elsewhere achieves NOTHING, as they will find a hundred reasons why you stopped going

Annapurna in Candolim. Was a favourite for us but when we went in January 2011 the chef had gone and his replacement was dreadful. They had to reduce the menu so he could cope but what he did cook was not a patch on what it was. Did not go to Goa this year so it may have turned itself around, but I would have to be convinced with so many tried and tested ones to choose from.
