Price of Flights
#16
We booked with Sri Lanka in May for a stay from September to May and the cost was £505 - at the moment is now just over £700
Our son - booked at the same time - from Mid December for 6 weeks was £590 in now over a grand
Friends have recently booked with Jet via Mumbai to come out in Nov and going back end of April and was near to £600.
Jet was more expensive when we booked in May but for some reason their flights are now cheaper - does not add up.
Just out of curiosity will now go and have a look at todays prices.
One thing - we booked direct with Sri Lanka and they gave us 20kg of luggage and 1 hand luggage. We booked with an agent given to us by Sri Lanka for our son (we could not deal with SA direct because we were paying for the flight and the name on the ticket has, by law, to have the bank card with them when they check in. There is no way our son is having my bank card in his care for 3 months - there would be nothing left in it when I got it back) Anyway back to the reason. The agent gave him 30kg - 1 hand luggage and 1 laptop which when he usually gets on a plane with a laptop and what he is wearing really narked me. Have filled him a case to bring with him

The Jet price I quoted to Goa - £557 - was on their website tonight - 18th sept -
Sri Lanka rang us and told us he had to be in receipt of the credit card - never said anything about a copy.

Hi All
Am looking for flights for next Tues, Weds or Thurs for our return to Goa.
We live in the north but flights from Manchester seem very very expensive. It looks like it would be a lot cheaper to drive to Heathrow and park for three months instead.
The best I can find is from Heathrow to Mumbai with Virgin and Mumbai to Goa with Kingfisher Red (the old Deccon boneshaker!). The price is £387 each for both flights which seems good. But the return means an overnight in Mumbai and Kingfisher Red only gives you 15kg baggage.
Anybody else found anything else reasonable? Looking to come back mid December.
many thanks Andyru

We've used Virgin and Deccan several times. First time we used it we were aware of the baggage limit of 15Kg on Deccan but each extra kilo was quoted as something like 70 Rups - so not a major problem. As it happens we've never been charged.

Thanks D4ve M and hello (I'm pretty new here also!). Never flown with Virgin are they OK?. We had a very bad flight with Deccan a few years ago. It was the propeller plane, during the monsoon, in the middle of a bad storm. Really didnt think we were going to make it
People screamed for the whole flight and the one crew member (a young gir) sat in the brace position from start to finish. It has put us off slightly
Presume that the new Kingfisher Red are using the same planes and staff?regards

We must have been on the same Decan flight. It was truly dreadful and we were all frightened to death - never travelled with them again. To make things worse a friends who was with us had something to eat on the plane and then had a dreadful flight from Mumbai to Heathrow spending most of it in the loo.
Son flew over with Virgin a couple of years ago and said they were fine - always travels to USA with them.

I remember my wife tying her handbag to her wrist, she wanted to make it easier for her body to be identified

I was very cool, calm and collected

Have to say that having tried charter flights and scheduled flights with various airlines my choice would be to fly with Jet Airways. The seats are comfortable the food is good (I always chose Indian vegetarian) the service is good and I have not yet been on a full flight so I usually get two seats to myself.

Last time I flew Deccan it was an Airbus - no probs at all.
I'm going in 10 days time but Deccan (Kingfisher red) don't seem to be operating the route in October so I'm using Spice Jet. Which is a bit of a pain because that means a couple of hours delay at Mumbai. Its a bit hit and miss at the moment about how long it takes to transfer to the domestic terminal given the refurb that is apparantly going on at Mumbai airport. So I've played safe and allowed plenty of time.

Hi All,
I have been advised that in light of XL, economic events and travel advisory notices being issued that if you can leave booking your flights for a few weeks( and you have your visa's
) there is a good chance that flights will come down
Obviously no guarantees but hey lifes a gamble ( especially in Goa
)
