Dread,

Betty's really is an excellent fantastic value for money day out & I'm a Yorkshireman so I don't comment on value lightly!

At the height of the season they run 2 boats, the smaller one has lower tables & cane chairs - it seats about 28 people max. Later on in the season they run just 1 boat but it has an upper deck, that together with a choppier April sea is a memorable experience.

You genuinely can drink as much or as little alcohol as you like: alcohol content less than 5% kingfisher, G&T, Royal Stag, Romanov, Old Monk Rum, Honeybee etc etc & the food really is very good & freshly cooked on the boat.

As a very short stayer, I can happily do the trip once a week for the 3 weeks that we are there & I can highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a boat trip with nice food & unlimited booze for a tenner (Rs 750).

Regards

H.

Do you have a phone number for the boat trip, so that we can book when we have visitors, it is a long way to go on spec.

Thanks

It's a landline number & it is: 08322871456.

Don't turn up on spec & book early to avoid disappointment.

Would be great - I promise not to bring the DM with me, as long as the sheep stops bouncing, it is making me giddy.

I would recommend either casa de cris (new block) or Sao domingos both in the centre of Cavelossim & both modern, clean & A/C equipped. They won't be dirt cheap, possibly about Rs2,000 per night but that's a bit of guess to be honest.

Might have to go early November, but definitely going late december & again in late march/early April.

Regards

We could take the sheep and drop it over the side to the sharks - or roast it for lunch - that'll stop it bouncing !!

You must bring the DM - after all we must check out the fashion pages and beachwear section mustn't we - and read our horoscopes too. ....over a GnT or three of course ( )

We could use it for an equivalent to "Hog Roast". Making me feel hungry now thinking of the Hog Roasts we had on the beach.

There are plenty of shops, restaurants, bars & beach shacks in Cavelossim. Betty's trip is a great day out for a tenner: out to sea to look for dolphins, back up the river Sal before dropping anchor, then an open bar, garlic prawns as a starter, king fish steak rice & salad with a fruit salad to finish before the boat drops you back off at the jetty at about 3.30pm.

You could take a day trip down to Palolem (featured in one of the Bourne films) which is a lovely bay but quite commercialised now. On the way to down there's also Agonda & Patnem. To the South of Palolem is Karwar which i guess is actually in Karnataka, i've not been there so i can't comment but Bipat has & will be able to tell you about the area. There's also probably the Kadam a Transport Corporation bus into Margao both of which are an 'experience'.

Cavelossim is a nice part of Goa, I hope you enjoy yourselves.

Regards

H.
Can also recommend Betty's Boat. Those Garlic Prawns were the best I've ever had. Never seen any dolphins but hey, it was a lovely trip all the same. Just to watch the little settlements all along the river was interesting.

A trip up the Chapora river to Alorna fort is nice.....a chance to see all the illegal boats dredging sand from the river bed!!!!!!

But apart from that the scenery is beautiful and also the wildlife... including the fish that leap from the water and appear to be flying backwards !!!!!!

Seeing the local fishermen diving from their canoes c atching fish in their hands!!

There is a great guy called Stefan who comes from France and has a boat for hire up and down the Charpora. He charges 1500 each but for a minimum party of 10 but you may be able to negotiate rates. His number is 9881772861
