People have to queue for hours at their convenience, they are a captive audience. Your comparisons are ridiculous using peoples homes as a comparison.

Noni, the original 'grump' (I presume light hearted) was regarding Birm. rail station. Living in the Midlands I regularly use this station and have never queued.
There is someone in attendance and regular cleaning. So I think it worth 30p.
Those of us buying airtickets should be able to afford it!!!
This weekend when in London visited St Pancras station (OH wanted to see the renovations) and----the toilets are free, I had to queue and one was blocked.
Was not impressed.
(Now let's have some Goa relevance) the toilets at Dabolim are second only to Chennai in awfulness and I really think no excuse as other Indian airport toilets are very clean now.
Just one thought Noni, have you ever really queued for hours?? I would have thought it would be too late and a puddle would have been the result

Ridiculous? Why? The facts are very simple and straightforward it costs money to operate a toilet facility, why therefore should it be free? You assert that it is ridiculous to compare a toilet owned by a business to one owned by a household; absolutely not, the only difference being that as a householder you would not even consider allowing a stranger to use your toilet, whether they paid or whether they didn't; however you expect free use of a toilet owned by a business! Something of a duel standard me thinks!

I suppose you could argue that the free toilets in service stations, department stores, restaurants, airports etc. are all owned by a business, but perhaps cleanliness is a more important issue than the payment.

Total agreement, its all part of the service in the UK.

If some people on here want to pay, fine! Maybe there should be an honesty box? Maybe with drain holes in the bottom?

Ah! now I see why Indians "wee" at the roadside.
Seriously, if you are kept for hours waiting at their convenience, in the visa office or at Dabolim, using the loo should be free.
Dabolim - I would not mind paying, if the proceeds were spent to send the immigration desk staff on a typing course so that we would not spend ages in the queues

Don't mind leaving money in an honesty box, yesterday we were lucky enough to find a "free" parking place in a churches carpark, they ask for money to be put in the honesty box - happy to oblige

That's a relief Noni, I thought you meant you were standing for hours in the loo queue. As I said above I think Dabolim is not progressing, we always arrive via Mumbai, there are no queues at immigration (other than numbers of people), senior citizens straight through customs. Clean toilets, no 'ladies' hovering for money.
Same elsewhere in smaller airports eg. Pune. So no excuse for Goa.

Arriving on charters are the worst! Like you we are lucky coming in from either Qatar Mumbai etc on schedule.

I can sort of see you're (and a few others) point, although I still think that 30p is extreme. I suppose my problem was that the bar we were in at the trains station didn't have a loo so you had to nip across to the 30p a go one. Now I don't know about you boys and girls but a few glasses of wine and I'm there by the minute!!

Most definitely Heidi, plus bladder control and hip rotation. Hoola-hooping would be good training I guess?
