Re: In To-day's Newspapers
Churchill has been corrupt for over 20 years. His brother was involved in the infamous silver heist in the early 90s.Nothing would surprise me about this family and they have been a cancer in the side of Goa for too long. All the brothers are deeply involved in corruption of some sort.As for the Keeling business, she was on BBC4 this morning describing why she wont be going back to India. The interviewer was quite sympathetic and only asked what i would call, very shallow questions regarding her decision to leave her 15 year old daughter in North Anjuna, while she went to Gokarna. She described Julios family as friendly and warm and trusting, and that she had no qualms about doing so.
She said she was vilified by the Indian press and stood by her allegations regarding Kamat and higher ups in Goan society. She cried during the interview too.I think its hard to make decisions about some one who has lost her eldest daughter and now thinks that if she comes back to India for the trial she will be arrested and can face 6 months in an Indian prison for neglect of a minor. What was not mentioned during the interview was the drug taking by her daughter and friends. She still insists it was rape and murder though.Well there are 4 verdicts in Indian law. Not guilty, guilty, benefit of the doubt, and a good bung to the judge ! |

OK I agree Scarletts mom was wrong to leave her. I would day 99.9% of us would not leave our daughters in that situation. But how DARE the indians have the mother up in court when you see little 3 year olds + on their own begging on the roads, and beaches. One rule for one and one for another. lAST year we saw 2 children 5 - 6 year olds putting a baby in a hamock tied to a tree the busy road side in Candolim, not a parent insight. I know 2 wrongs do not make a right, but be fair. Scarlett did not deserve to loose her life. neither do these children deserve to be prostituted. |
Re: In To-day's Newspapers
A close friend of mine knows the German Lady and her daugther very well, think this has been a case of a parent trying to do her best for a daugther who has got caught in the wrong company, living in Goa all her life she has been around the privilaged youth of goa who dont have boundaires and have money handed to them by Daddys, her mother went to the police on a different matter as the girl had tried assault her mother, then everything was blown out of portion and as a concerned mother found various things that were happening in her daugthers life. another scarlett waiting to happen.
The daugther is clearly of the rails and the mother turned for help but it has clearly got out of control by the media attention and corruptness of this state. I have seen this happen to several young FN kids in the past few years and unless you as a parent can keep a tight rein on your kids here face a very hard battle to keep control. |
Re: In To-day's Newspapers
Thought I had bought the News of the World today when I sat down to read GT Weekender.
The front page headlines German girl deposes - at last she has gone to the police station and made a 5 page statement Murder case against Raj - Raj Thackray accused of murder Paedophile arrested - A Goan accused of sexually abusing a 13 year old boy Is Goa turing into Rapists' Paradise? - article inside highlighting previous cases. |

Just don't understand the German case How can they tell weeks after, who has done what to her and how can it take a panel of doctors 2 hours for an examination! Weird or what. |

And here is a copy of the letter from the erudite Mr Pond, I will not be showing it to Milwart or he may take Geoffs advice on getting rid of the real dregs ........................to Dearest "M" thats everyone but him!
Zimbabwe of India? Geoffrey Pond, Calangute On behalf of all respectable British visitors to Goa, I thank Jenny Pacheco and others for their kind words of support. Yes, you are the people who can stop the rot and prevent Goa from turning into a lawless state andthe Zimbabwe of India. First of all attention should be drawn to the real ‘dregs’in Goa: those who commit the crimes of drug taking and lewd behaviour, and those who permit this unacceptable behaviour. Once these rotten apples are rooted out for good, then and only then will Goa’s tarnished worldwide reputation be restored. I have only been back in Goa for two weeks and have already noticed it is quiet for this time of year. Our Goan friends here are asking the same questions: “Where are your friends? When is so-and-so coming?†Unfortunately I can only shrug my shoulders in reply. |

This is with reference to Fatima Miranda's letter to the editor in Herald 23 titled Mothers to Blame Why such sweeping condemnation of white mothers and their daughters? The mother and daughter you refer to are not cheap white pampered tourists. They have been law abiding residents in Goa over the past decade. The mother is a research scholar in Indian culture and the daughter, who has grown up in the village, even speaks fluent Konkani. Can we forget the number of cases in which decently dressed innocent local girls have been eye-teased, molested, raped and disfigured in acid attacks, without any fault of their own, other than that of being on the wrong side of gender fence in a patriarchal society? Would you say that all secuded their molesters or rapists? Can you accuse their mothers of bad parenting? What ab out the parenting of the beasts - most of them adults - whom you call poor local boys who get so readily seduced and take full advantage of these scantily clade white minor females? Should they be protected by their rich mummies and, yes, irresponsible daddies too, when the law catches up with them. Talking of us Indians and our dress code, have you taken a good look at the almost naked Indian film stars and fashion models on TV lately, the very ambassadors of our country and culture abroad? What would you say about their clothes and lifestyles, let us not stone the victim in this case without informing ourselves of the whole truth. The problem is not a simple case of bad parenting by white mothers. As Goan parents ourselves, let us not be so naive. Even our fully uniformed minor daughters in schools and colleges today have little protection against their male peers who might be exposed to ready cash, drugs, booze and sex. The problem lies in an ever decaying Goan society, where our local youth - sadly, even the so called educated lot, are fast and losing their sense of moral consciousness. They wall in the filth that is fed to them daily by the media, including some local dailies, and are succuming to the evil lure of fast money and cheap sex, sometimes even with the blessing of their own parents. Instead of being self-righteous, let us work towards setting up a center to help the victims of such crimes, victims who are often our own local children. Such atrocities are bound to increase in the present 'casino culture' that our government is determined to promote in the state. Must say a very intelligent lady  I am sure you will agree. Hopefully Millward as well. |

Yes indeed a very good letter, also beneath that a very honest letter from Selma Carvelho (Goan UK)
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> I caught this quote from Keith Vaz (" Vaz t.m "washes whiter than white) We have many Indians in the UK, but it’s mostly the Goans who have maintained their identity. They cook the same food, they have their Goan meets regularly and they are as hospitable abroad as they are in Goa.† Any comments on his last seven words ? |
Re: In To-day's Newspapers
And here it is,
The Russians are coming! J Julian, UK All the papers have been full of criticism about the Brits and what they are doing to Goa, with drugs, drink, and property scams. A year ago the Russians were accused of drug trafficking, prostitution, money laundering and property scams, but now they are the best thing since sliced bread. Who are you going to pick on next? It is time Goans start thinking about themselves and the needs of their families, because very soon there will be no one to pick on, as they will all have found a different paradise to enjoy when they are on holiday. No one has destroyed your homeland apart from yourselves and the corrupt government you put into power. The Russians want Las Vegas, bright lights, good hotels, motorways and good roads. The Brits want to sell the homes they brought in good faith from Goans and move on as Goa is no longer the beautiful friendly place it was. So there you have it: the Russians won’t get their Las Vagas, so they will think twice about coming. Get the government to let the Brits sell their homes and then you will have all the peace and quiet you want, plus empty hotels, bars, restaurants and shacks, and no one corrupting the youth of Goa with drugs, (even though it is the Indians who offer us drugs and half-naked women walking the streets). Wake up, Goa, and smell the roses because at the moment the roses smell a lot better in other countries than they do in Goa. |
