Default CRIME HOW BAD

I live down south in Benaulim, and yes crime is on the up, but i hear of a few rooms being broken into, a few too many handbags being snatched, the odd rape and woman molested.
Having spent most of the last 18 months on the Costa Del Sol, much, much, more crime of all sorts here, and violence.
As many of you live in North Goa, how bad are things, in the North???, ive heard Anjuna is very bad, what about the tourist areas???.
Thanks.

The level of crime in Goa tends to get dismissed as "insignificant"

But when you take into account that Goa is smaller than Cornwall, and has a tourist influx of about a tenth of that Blackpool receives........

If most of the crime didnt get swept under the carpet (if there were any!), and if the overwhelmingly corrupt and inefficient police force didnt do all it could to supress the reporting of crime, I think we would all be horrified.

I've lived near Anjuna for quite a few years and it surprises me the negative press it gets.

you may have noticed that there are signs everywhere saying something like "Do not pay bribes - if you are asked for a bribe contact XYZ Agency" - well I was recently told under no circumstances should anyone contact said agency because they in turn would squeeze the people you report for a cut of the take - thereby increasing the average level of bribe being demanded.
