Container Sharing to Mumbai

Hello All,

I am moving house to India (Goa). I would actually only need a 20ft container to fit in all my goods. I am shipping my 18ft catamaran which has a 26ft mast. I have no choice but to use a 40ft container, hence it will be a good idea if I can share the shipping with somebody else.
I am getting the 40ft container for only £2200/- shipping only (you will have to arrange to clear customs in Mumbai yourself). I will need to pack and load my goods in the container at my house.
I will be shipping the goods in the 3 week of August 09.
Does anybody need to ship any thing to Mumbai and help share the cost of the container, if so please Contact me on noni by pm for contact details

Regards

Hello Noni,

Sorry, I did not know that I was not allowed to put down a phone number.

Who do you know likes sailing? Are they a member to this forum?

Regards,
Ed

did the move myself in nov 05, watch yourselves at mumbia customs and hope your indian agent not bent aswell, had to hand over the passport and customs asked for 16000 rupees without even looking in the container, we paid then the agent returned the passport and delivered the goods, then he promptly asked for a further 25000 rupees, i said my dear fellow if you wish to rip me off, do so before you hand my passport and goods.

Welcome Royal Engineer - and thanks for your valuable information.
Have read on the Goa thread/or been told about the ripoff at Mumbai, but that is India for you.

why ship to Mumbai - wouldn't Vasco be better?
(also there used to be some shipping agents who advertised a full handling and clearance service).

If you want a shipping container to go to the port of Vasco in Goa, you must state emphatically and repeatedly to your agent and all others involved, verbally and in writing, plus check as much as you can, yourself......... Destination; GOA - VASCO DE GAMA.
Otherwise it will go to GOA- MUMBAI, automatically.
Especially if the destination is just recorded as GOA!
This is a fact, from experience.

What you need to do is ensure that Goa Vasco De Gama is shown as the destination on the bill of lading. It maybe that the line still takes it to a different port, but then they are responsible for paying the charges to get it to where it should be.

Hi,

Thanks for all the advice
I choose to ship to Goa via Mumbai because I got the shipping form the UK to Mumbai for only £2200/-.
I will have to pay another £800/- (clearing agents and for transport to Goa by truck). (Mumbai customs will be extra). I will just have to be my good day to negotiate a good price with the customs officer.

Can anyone let me know approximately how much you have paid to ship to Goa (either to Mumbai or to Goa directly).

Hey poppetjay,

You said :
"we have had 2 shipments to goa door to door and no problems the agent dealt with all customs"

Would you be able to give me the contact details of the agency which did the door to door service?

I have some domestic goods i need to move from uk to goa which will need custom clearance.

Between do you know whether the goods can be directly shipped to goa - vasco without going via mumbai.

Thank you in advance

Re: Container Sharing to Mumbai

Thank you for your reply "johnny five". So my goods could reach goa without going to mumbai and i can have a custom clearing agent in goa instead of mumbai. That sounds much more easier for me.

Would you know shipping agency/s that could deliver goods(domestic) from UK (England ) TO Vasco - goa?

Thank you again for your help. Really appreciate it.
