animals in Goa

Noni if this was directed at me? Bubblybear is new to Goa, she was upset, could not I encourage her? Of course many negative posts have truth, but could not some of the posts be positive. For instance the daily newspaper reports, why is it always the negative items that are posted? I have been associated with India most of my (long) life so no rose tinted glasses, you yourself said that you loved Goa there must be something positive you can post at least occasionally, there are often two sides to every situation, so perhaps positive opinions can also be respected.
I would be only to pleased to report something positive. There are no two sides, to corruption, murder, retrospective changing of the rules etc.
Happy to report rupee up to 72.555, hope it keeps climbing.

Further to Above Reply: A positive and a negative:
I have never personally known of a pet cat torn apart by dogs.
but---
One of a neighbours 6 cats fell into an uncovered well and drowned. Some Goans/Indians are careless about covering their wells. I am sure Bubblybear will watch out for this hazard.

I Bipat,
Yes I can understand the difficulties & frustrations that some people on here must be facing..it can't be nice for them
But when I first came on here I hadn't ever been to Goa & wanted some helpful advice not horror stories..ok tell me to be careful if I bring my cat over, advise me of the pitfalls...'not that he will be torn to pieces'...that really upset me.
We all have to make our own minds up about living here....be they good or bad in the end.

So far I like it

So far I like itMy post advised you against bringing your cat to Goa. The comments I made were not to upset you, but to make you aware of what perils lie there for a cat brought up in the UK.
You asked for advice and I gave it with genuine thought to the safety of your cat. Where does the quote 'torn to pieces' come from - I don't see that in any post on here, except your own?
Personally when I offer advice on here I speak from personal experience, not prejudice.

I dearly want to take my cat to Goa when we move, but am I being selfish?I'm torn in two as I don't want to leave him behind but wouldn't want him to suffer either. He is a young cat only 2 years old & likes his home comforts so doesn't stray very far.
I know it will be upto me in the long run but has anyone taken their pets to Goa. We are in UK at mo.
Many thanks
THE most sought after vet (in case Storm needs her) is based in Porvorim and she is known as Dr Marilyn. Most europeans and quite a few locals will only go to her. Hopefully he won`t need to go too frequently but there are the annual jabs .Do consider getting him a rabies jab before you come or soon after you arrive. Hope he likes flying!!!!

There is also Karin, a Swiss woman in Pilerne who works closely with Dr Marilyn, and Animal Rescue at Assagao. Her large garden has been adapted to shelter cats and dogs recovering from operations, and she rescues and neuters strays. She has an Animal Ambulance. Well, it's a Maruti van really, with the words 'Animal Ambulance' on it.
She is well intentioned and does a good job but beware her rather teutonic dictatorial manner. She will take your cat in and feed it short term if you ever want to take a break from Goa and have a wander round India.
The Goan mindset towards animals is quite different from a Western 'pet' perception, and some can be deliberately cruel, particularly towards dogs. In contrast, I would say the majority are very kind in a non attached way, feeding village strays as well as the animals they might consider their own. Only the favoured are allowed in the house.
Most cats and dogs adapt to have many homes (or compounds) at the same time. Dogs do turn on the weakest and savage each other, especially during the monsoon when they move off the beach and no longer have the security of food from the shacks and friendly foreigners.
Karin's number in Goa is 9822982564.
Dread is not being alarmist about packs of wild dogs - they exist, and are often rabid. They attack humans. Also, if you can part with your cat in the UK and find it a good home, why not take in a Goan cat? There is little sentimentality towards animals in Goa. If your cat goes missing, so what they say, go pick another one.
We have five neighbours cats and three of their dogs who we feed in the yard. When we feed them, surprisingly, our neighbours stop feeding them, saves a few rupees, stupid foreigners!

Truth Hurts, you ask we answer and you don't want to know the truth. So why ask in first place. Bring your cat, if it gets savaged fine. You were worned, you asked And if it doesn't happen fine. He or she as been lucky

I've really had it with this damned site..no it's not ok if my cat gets savaged.
No I wish I had never found this site & asked the question.
I don't mind people telling me what might happen, but I don't like the way some of you answer. I live near a road & local walk way...my cat could get run over or savaged by a dog here..are animals safe anywhere.
Thank you to everyone who has given me sound kind advice, but I can't be doing with the rest of you.

Certainly not people like you who seem to have no compassion..ok tell the truth...but being brutal about it is not the way....don't you think I have searched areas that is safe for my cat..he hardly goes out..& you certainly know nothing about me or the cat. I asked because I wanted to hear from people who had moved animals abroad...about how easy it was etc, about the heat etc....if you had bothered to read my question.
You might live where packs of dogs roam..not everyone does.

Good god..you certainly can't be an animal lover.
My cat is classed as 1 of the family..he is a pedigree & was a birthday present. He is loved very much....it would break my heart to part with him.
I know there are loads of cats out there...I just can't get rid of one I love & replace him....some us of aren't heartless.
Please don't leave me anymore messages.

I know that in Thailand you can buy "stun collars" so if anything goes near your pussy they get a massive shock.
