Question animals in Goa

I dearly want to take my cat to Goa when we move, but am I being selfish?
I'm torn in two as I don't want to leave him behind but wouldn't want him to suffer either. He is a young cat only 2 years old & likes his home comforts so doesn't stray very far.
I know it will be upto me in the long run but has anyone taken their pets to Goa. We are in UK at mo.
Many thanks

Be careful, there are some very hungry dogs in Goa.

You dont?
Fascinated as to what you base that on?
Few cats are kept as pets, those that are, we in UK would describe as semi-feral. Their main purpose is vermin control and eating waste that the family guard dog turns its nose up at.
Most dogs kept by Goan families are allowed to roam at will, and thats before you even move on to the hundreds, if not thousands of strays in your immediate vicinity!
As far as you cat's health is concerned, fleas are a massive problem, ticks even worse. Rabies is common, as is parvo-virus.
The traffic is manic and thinks nothing of driving into full sized cows if the driver is drunk enough!
Proper Shangri-la for a Uk pussy, innit?

Hi Bubblybear

I would strongly advise that you do not take your cat to Goa.
There are many stray dogs which roam in packs, and many cats are attacked and killed by them. Just recently my Indian neighbours pet cat was killed by dogs.
A cat used to the Uk would find Goa terrifying for all the reasons J5 has given above.

Dread - cat lover too

Well I have now been in Goa for 2 weeks looking for a place to live that will be safe for my cat, I know this does not make me an expert before anyone says it!

I noted everybodies comments about my poor cat being torn to pieces should I take him to Goa!
We have found a lovely house with a walled graden..yes I know cats can jump..believe me my cat is lazy!!!!! I saw just 1 dog in all the time I visited, they tend to stay around where there are shops & food.

I really thought this site was for British expats now living in other countries..not expat's now living in Britain with no intentions of ever going back to Goa but act as if they are living here & still like to voice their opinions whatever, people on here want help not horror stories all the time!

I have found a few people on here who actually like & love Goa & I thank them for their help.
I can't wait to leave Britian behind & start my new life in Goa....

Well said!! but we should realise that some (many senior citizens) have the worry of losing their life savings always on their shoulders and become angry. I left the forum in a huff ! but couldn't resist returning.

I Bipat,

Yes I can understand the difficulties & frustrations that some people on here must be facing..it can't be nice for them

But when I first came on here I hadn't ever been to Goa & wanted some helpful advice not horror stories..ok tell me to be careful if I bring my cat over, advise me of the pitfalls...'not that he will be torn to pieces'...that really upset me.

We all have to make our own minds up about living here....be they good or bad in the end.

So far I like it

Pleased that you are happy in Goa, just ignore the negative posts. Can understand how you feel about your cat, we have a 17 year old 'moggy' he is always with us or one of the children.

There are not many negative untrue posts on this site, most of what long termers/passed/present comments are how they perceive the situation in Goa at present. We pride ourselves in saying it as it is - not like HT a TA which are just holidays forums for people staying for two weeks and have rose tinted glasses on.

If you don't agree, have your say, but please respect other persons opinion.

Noni if this was directed at me? Bubblybear is new to Goa, she was upset, could not I encourage her? Of course many negative posts have truth, but could not some of the posts be positive. For instance the daily newspaper reports, why is it always the negative items that are posted? I have been associated with India most of my (long) life so no rose tinted glasses, you yourself said that you loved Goa there must be something positive you can post at least occasionally, there are often two sides to every situation, so perhaps positive opinions can also be respected.
