Re: 3 month visa for Brits????

If you apply from your home country you can ask for a 6 month or twelve month multiple entry via, with the proviso that if you leave after 6 months you cannot re-enter for 60 days.If you apply from anywhere else you can still get a 12 month or 6 month multiple entry visa but the time period is 3 months with the 60 days ruling still applying.Mate of mine just flew in from Spain so it might only apply to the EU the 12 month and 6 month periods.I do know if you go to Nepal or Thailand you will get a 3 month visa and you have to stay out for 60 days..However,this is not taking into account the back hander back passage into India.I know one person who had come to the end of his 6 month period in India , went to Jakarta, smiled to the nice man and was given another 12 month visa without any trouble and he came back straight away but that had the 60 day ruling in too.It just depends how flexible or desperate you are in the scheme of things

Noni, the VFS site now says:
A tourist visa may be issued normally for three months to six months with single or multiple entries and is non-extendable and non-convertible. The duration of the visa is the sole discretion of the Issuing Authority.

Yes absolutely correct, 2 different messages on 1 page depending on which 'tourist' heading you click on. Previously (I think) both headings stated
6 month to year does anyone remember for certain?

Why don't you all give up worrying - and see what you get, and enjoy your selves whilst you are here, or our lives are going to be ruined.

I agree Noni but its not only the concern amongst us who use and read this forum but every Brit I meet asks me about visas. Its a hot topic as it was last year but the sun shines and the sea is warm so lets live for now and enjoy what we have.

Noni, a lot of peoples lives are going to be ruined if we are given 3 month visas (then two months out) - in fact it completely destroys any point in having property here - property which we are not allowed to sell.
[In today's Herald - Indian companies have bought lakhs of sq. meters of land in Goa]

Andy I would be interested in your thoughts on my post (last one on the '2 months out rule' thread). Or could it make situation worse?

Of course, Andy I agree with you, we are in the same position as you BUT I have wasted years worrying about the property issue, and confiscation. I am trying not to let this 3 month visa rumour spoil this seasons holiday.
as my grandfather used to say "Cross that bridge, when you come to it".

Like i have said before and as far back as three years ago......3 month tourist visas have been issued for years......if you are entering India for say 2-3 weeks and don't require a mutiple entry visa then you could very well end up with a 3 month single entry visa. My family all got one a few years back and i wrote about it on here. A 3 month tourist visa has always been an option for issue by the Indian embassies although as a matter of norm London HCI always seemed to issue a 'standard' 6 month multiple entry visa for all tourists even if they where only going to Goa for two weeks.
The problem me thinks is now with jobworths at VFS who may very well be recommending the 3 month tourist visa if you don't specifically put in the dates of travel to justify a 6 month multiple entry one.

It all comes down to whos desk your visa application lands on and how accurately you have filled it in. I don't think it means the abolishment of the 6 month multiple entry tourist visa.

My stomach is in knots reading this. Worried sick for my poor parents who have property in Goa. They've worked all their lives and now retired - TO THIS - they are spending all of their retirement money in India for goodness sake!!
