Stop listening to rumour and innuendo, wait and see instead of stressing and wondering what will be. There is nothing you can do that will change it so get on with whatever you have to do for the rest of the summer and when next season comes then you will know for certain.
Yes it is bad for home owners in Goa but chill out a little -- please.
I really don't know what to make of this reply.

My Parents bought many years ago in Goa, some may say naive, I know. But they bought in good faith and now are worrying where they will go, what will happen to their property (and all the hard earned money invested in it) and what will happen to the four dogs they feed and take care off. A little hard to 'chill out' with all of these worries hanging over their head I'm afraid, especially given that the 2 month out rumour was realised a few weeks later.

Well, maybe its possible that this person managed to sell their flat a couple of years ago at a reasonable profit?
Maybe they were lucky enough to sell it to an Indian doctor for example, and maybe he agreed to buy the entire contents too? It could even be that he approached them as he was renting in the same development?
It could be that they hadn't registered the purchase and were lucky enough to buy from a developer who was prepared to facilitate the change of ownership for a reasonable, small fee instead of the extortion suffered by most?
Lets say for example, that they had never bought a vehicle, and had managed to rent a scooter at a knock-down rate from an established Gujurati immigrant, year after year?
Its entirely possible that they actually disliked pets, so would never have dreamed of rescuing any local dogs?
Hypothetically they may have tried a following season renting in Goa and not got on with the concept, missing all their previous luxuries? This may have surprised them as in the past they just might have furnished their rented flats with cardboard boxes?
Its entirely possible that they might own properties in both England and Spain, which could, only could, mean that they were able to wave goodbye to Zimbabwe-on-Sea without giving a toss?

Just an imaginary situation, of course, but maybe a reason why they can be so callous and blase about others predicament...............were it to be true, which I am sure its not.

She was advised not to leave India because of the 2 month out rule.Karen is in her 70s now and was one of the original hippies who came to Aranbol in the late 60s. She has always rented too.The 5 year X visa was issued in Delhi by post. I am still gob smacked that of all the agencies involved in issuing bloody visas that Delhi would be the last place you would find kindness from an official. The whole visa situation doesn't make sense at all. !
Well I've never heard of 10 year X visas but there is plenty of evidence that until around 2006 5-year X's were available in the UK if you could show Sales Agreement/Deeds (or possibly rental agreements). By 2007 that was down to 1-year X's with the promise of 5-year ones after a few years.
If your friend got hers from Delhi it is probably a 5-year extension to her previous visa. It may be that she was looked on favourably because she would qualify for Indian Citizenship if she wanted it (just guessing).
The "don't leave india" advice is nonsense - the 2-month rule does not apply to X visas.

Americans used to get, and maybe still get a 10 year T visa, they had to leave every 180 days.

Not much chance of the 2 month out rule being reversed

Steve. Americans used to get 10 year visas but since the Mumbai attacks and the involvement of that Pakistan/American Hadley they have reduced it to 5 year. Karen was also mystified as to why she was required to register in Panjiim too as she thought the office was now closed for the duration. Its still strange though that the yanks are still getting long stay visas. I personally think it has to do with education and the amount of Indian students that travel to USA for degrees Etc.

Americans are still daily receiving 10 year visas on an ongoing basis, in very large numbers. What are you basing your assertion on?

If they are PIO's but with Pakistani origin? Lucky to get a 5 day visa, never mind 5 years?

Karen (??) may be an exception to the rule for no other reason than sheer luck...........the way the visa system works
(or not)

Visas are going to cost £2 more as of 14th March due to an additional Consular charge.

Could this be when some new visa rules are also going to come into force!!!!

Information from Vfs Global.

Yes Americans have always been offered 10 year visa max stay 180 days.
Most Americans go home after 10 days or they land in BOMBAY and get on the first plane home.It takes us Brits and Germans plus Russians who have recently been let out of some Stalag or whatever to want to stay in GOA!
The average stay for an The East India Company employee was less than 18 months because they could not stomach this country. ie to hot, cholera, malaria, war, famine, naxals, dacoits etc,and no decent golf courses

Brilliant mate!

Thats Gulag, not Stalag............Stalag was Krauts, innit?

Goa has been promising a "world standard" golf course for years, when in reality they could not provide a hygenic putting green..........
