2 month out rule
#46
Yes, it certainly is a ridiculous rule with no logic behind it. The only real reason is to stop anyone from doing a visa run and that just hurts the expats like us who want to live and stay in India. Why dont they take each case on its merits? or have a box on the application form that says 'have you had any contact with terrorists?'

I agree a 5 year visa would be much better for us all even if it meant an interview at the Embassy beforehand. We have had to come to the UK to get a 6 month visa as they are only issuing 3 month visas in Spain.. the things we do to go to India!!!

Sorry if this is wrong, but I need some advice on the( 2 month rule out )
Our 6 month multi-entry Indian visa expires 16th March 2011,we understand that when we exit India the minimum time for re-entry is 2 months. We plan to exit India 1st march 2011 and travel to Sri Lanka.
Question :-How soon can we apply for a new visa in Sri Lanka knowing we cannot re-enter India until we have completed the two months out.
2) Can we apply for a Indian visa after ( one month ) has elapsed and our current visa has expired.
Will the India embassy issue a new visa with the above information,we understand that the new Indian visa will probibly on valid for 3 months, this will suite are immediate needs.

Have a look here;

Obviously the later pages are more relevant. What comes over is a picture of unpredictability and aggressive and unhelpful embassy staff.

Hong Kong issued me with only 3 month visa today, asked for 5 year multiply entry, replied to me sorry even though you are a Hong Kong id holder you can only have 3 month double entry, non Hong Kong id = single entry 3 month visa,a business visa = one year.
Very bad new's...........

So I have now now been to Goa and enjoyed it very much, I got a single entry 3 month visa, so what happens now? do I have to wait till this visa runs out, then wait 2 months before I can return? or can I apply for another visa 2 months after the date of my departure.
Thanks for any info.

Even if your existing visa still had some days to run, because it was just a "single entry", you have done that and would not be able to return so technically any remaining portion of the visa till its expiry date is unusable.
Hope this helps.

I am sure, but other members will confirm this, that you need to wait 2 calendar months from the date of your departure date stamp from India before you can re-apply for a new visa. I'm not so sure that the authorities themselves know whether that should be 2 calendar months, 2 x 30 days, 2 x 31 days or whatever.

It does seem so crazy that after a 2 week holiday in India I can not return there for 2 months, what country does that, it is ridiculous.
I live in Asia and for us to pop over to China,Thailand, Singapore, Phillippines etc etc is not something you do then have to wait 2 months to go there again, get with it India.

Glad you enjoyed Goa/India tho' - just spend your money elsewhere where you are more appreciated. That's what lots of us have been forced to do.......
Cheers & Merry Xmas

Couldn't agree with you more, CBC, and there are thousands who use this site who are of like mind. But what can you do? It's now 12 months since this rule was brought in & no sign of any change..............

Well this is what I will be forced to do, spend my money else where, somewhere that will want my hard earned dollar, and not punish me for wanting to visit there country.
Silly India.....

Read The Times of India and Navind Times today. The Goan Government have asked the centre to relax the 2 month rule as its affecting the tourist trade by at least 7% ( Thats what it says in the paper)
