Strike (over) at Carcassonne Airport
The staff at the airport went on strike last Friday and on monday and tuesday the airport was completely closed - all outgoing flights cancelled and all incoming ones redirected to Perpignan.
Ryanair look like they solved the situation by sending a note to the head of the County Council in Carcassonne telling him in no uncertain terms that if a strike were to happen again then Ryanair would withdraw from Carcassonne.
The Chamber of Commerce in Carcassonne didn't offer good enough terms and the workers at the airport look like they've been threatened into submission.
It's a complex area I think: cheap fares and some nasty commercial practices from Ryanair - striking staff who don't see why they shouldn't profit from the increased turnover at the airport - a County Council and Chamber of Commerce with a very tight budget limited further by the constraints of Ryanair who don't want other airlines to fly in.
Any comments out there?
Flights are back on by the way from tomorrow morning.
We have a family stranded with us and will be sad to lose them.

Re: Strike (over) at Carcassonne Airport
So the staff at the airport got a 8% rise which doesn't seem bad?
They still felt that they were pushed by Ryanair though and the local paper is reporting it as Ryanair pulling the strings locally with more power than the local chamber of commerce.

The rise of 8% seems good, but I guess it depends what it's 8% of that matters. Hope your guests managed to travel back okay
Has anyone heard anything about dates for anymore strikes?

Why, you could strike for a rise of 10,000% !
BE should pay that easily
