To move... or not to move?

I was going to ask the OP how she thinks she will have time to do all that skiing and walking when she is running a gite complex or how she will manage to make much money on a seasonal basis.
Can I also remind her to check out the implications of her OH's job if the Brits vote to leave the EU. Any future pension will be frozen for example. It is an unknown but in the future if he has to find another job (not necessarily because of being outside the EU) he will find it very difficult. The French don't "do" charity like the Brits do. Today there is an agreement that EU members can move to find work. It may well be that if GB is no longer in the EU, preference will be given to those who are still in.

That's a sweeping statement you've just made above about pensions. Could you please substantiate it as being factual, or was the omission of an 'imho' an oversight?
The problem being that these pages are no doubt read by many hundreds of folks who could be easily misled by unfactual information.

OK if, as mentioned in this and many other threads, there's at least one job lined up and children aren't adolescents without a word of French.
Also, the weather's been grotty in the Hérault for some time, so what might be fantastic in the Alpes isn't necessarily pleasant elsewhere. In any case, the supposedly better weather in France shouldn't be a major factor in the decision to move here.
P.S. just noticed your Wink smiley

DMU, I have to disagree with your weather comment not being a major factor. For us it was. Fed up having year on year pathetic weather in the uk so we wanted somewhere with actual seasons i.e. snow and cold weather in the winter and sunshine and warmth in the summer. Add in beautiful autumns and lovely springs the weather was on our most wanted list.

Where the average temperature in January, the coldest month of the year is -0.2C, in comparison with my last home near Toronto where the average temperatures are below zero in December, January, February (both -6C) and March.
Toronto is considered sub-tropical by Canadians living elsewhere (except on the west coast).

Although Novo got used to the Canadian low temperatures, nevertheless his teeth would often chatter - even in the glass!
And I have it from a reliable source that he gave up smoking there because the flame on his lighter often froze......

hi there,
i am french, but my husband and i are living in holland. we were looking to move to also TOULOUSE area last year, and get a house to turn into a gite.
i contacted GITE DE FRANCE, they organize conference for people who want to join their logo and explain how it works.
toulouse is a beautiful area, but let me tell you.
hot, hot hot..
so my advice look for a place outside in the country side, where you can get some breeze, every houses there, have a pool., but i still love it.
there is a lot to take into considerations when running your own business in france.
as far a banks are concerned, you need to bring in at a minimum 10 % of the purchase price with a full time job.
good luck and let me know if you need more information.
