Hi- after 2 years we are just about to go to France.
We need to buy a LHD and as this is probably our last opp with some cash before we start the big renovation we are looking to get a fairly new car with a long warrenty and maybe 5-10km on the clock.
Has anyone got any advice as to websites in europe where to look whilst still in the UK.We have thought about going to Germany to buy - would we have to pay import tax? Where to get the best value - thats the question!!!!!!

Hope these help
Autoscout Germany
http://eng.autoscout24.com/index.asp?language=ger
Autoscout Belgium

Autoscout France
http://www.autoscout24.fr/
In Spain you have to owne the car for six months to avoid import registration tax but I don't know for sure if that is relevant in France. Also here you need to register it on Spanish plates within 30 days of residency, but agaon not sure if same in France

you will find the main car manufacturers in France have websites that you can check for prices, deals etc. for new and second hand (occasions) vehicles. Look at the following:
http://www.renault.fr
http://www.peugeot.fr
http://www.citroen.fr
Why would you want to go to Germany to buy a car if you are going to be living in France? You would have to reregister etc. and what would you do if you had a problem with the vehicle.
We have bought a couple of vehicles over the last few years from our local garage here in Normandy and have had no problems (touch wood!) with both new and second hand cars. We know the dealer and trust him, and any problems have been sorted out quickly.
The French are very loyal to their car industry, and you still do not see that many imported cars - at least not where we are, although Fiat seem to be popular here at the moment with younger people.
If you are thinking of buying a car that is not french made, you need to also consider things like getting it serviced, buying spare parts etc.
