Welcome to the forum Debbie.
Post in the general section of France with specific questions. Starting early will be very helpful - there is a mountain of bureaucracy in France, and you will have plenty of questions I am sure.

Hi. I have just discovered this forum. Am in the process of buying a place and will be living half and half at least until I finish my studies as a counsellor. I have my hand held by a friend who lives nearby and moved there about 2 years ago and works for a property management agency. I will be looking on this site and posting dumb questions with regularity!

Look forward to reading your dumb questions, but don't forget to ask them in the main forum below. This section is just for introductions.

Hi I'm Yvonne and my partner is Michelle and we have just decided to try life in France. We came here on the 1 Sep this year so everything is still very new to us. So far so good. We are renting a property at the moment in Eglise Neuve de Vergt near Perigord. Michelle is self employed and speaks French and I do not speak French yet! Any advice welcome!

Welcome Yvonne and Michelle. Fire away with questions, we dont know all the answers but we know some.
First piece of advice which I think you already know...
Learn French!
Check out your health cover - that is the stumbling block for most.
Best of Luck.

Evening all,
Just registered to hopefully start posting requesting advice on France house buying now that the kids have grown up.
We have a trip booked next month to visit the Pays de Loire region which is where we're looking at buying either -
a/ Holiday home
b/ Relocation home
c/ existing Gite/B&B/campsite business.
Basically any option that will get us into France
We've travelled through a few times by bike and fallen in love with the country as a whole.

Thanks for the advice bigglesworth. I have started French lessons and my partner is in the process of registering as self employed and getting additional health cover. We have tried to tackle the important tasks first.

Re: Introduction Thread (Somewhere to say Hi)
Hi Yvonne, sounds like you got your priorities right. Don't be shy, pop into the main form and ask if you want other people's opinions/advice on anything. Auto entrepreneur is the simplest self employed regime for Michelle to register on but not necessarily the best option for everybody, it all depends on your business model. My top tip is, NEVER assume that France has ANY of same rules as your home country. Start from scratch and find out the French rules with no preconceived ideas in your head. That way, you'll know you're not unknowingly breaking any rules - and when you come across something that does happen to work in a similar way, it's a pleasant surprise.
But enough of that, this is the intro forum, so - Welcome to France!

Thanks EuroTrash. We have researched and received advice from a number of accountants and the self employment system is very different from the UK. We are taking one step at a time.
Thanks for the welcome!

Just be warned that accountants may not give entirely unbiassed advice about the auto entrepreneur option - it's the only régime where you don't actually need an accountant so a lot of them will warn you off it, sometimes because they have never had anything to do with it and genuinely don't understand the advantages and sometimes because they want to get your business; whereas in fact in some cases AE is the best option.
