Default Health Insurance top up policy

As we now have our Carte Vitale we are looking for a top up health insurance policy. Just wondered who people on here used and what they thought of them. Thanks.

Hi we're with Médéric, but only because we were with them when we were working and, once retired, didn't see any reason to change. I suspect we pay more than other members covered by other companies, and the reimbursement for spectacles and teeth is still peanuts. No problem for reimbursing what we're entitled to, but not really recommended due to probably higher monthly premiums!

We use Allianz. Again, mainly because we started with them, and there are good reasons to stick with the same.
My suggestion would be you check the office and staff out. I stick with Allianz because although I speak reasonable French, SWMBO does not. So if there is a problem with health (or indeed any other insurance) and I am not around our local office have several people who speak reasonable English.
Much better IMO to be confident of your insurance than to shop around and save a few pence. Or sous.

I have used Exclusive Healthcare for years. Just Google them, their website is in English. They used to give a discount to members of the British Association but not sure if that is still the case.

We have been with Swiss Life for years and stick with them because, as Bigglesworth says you get a good loyalty bonus and the cover increases if you stick with the company you start with, unless of course, you have had a problem.

We don't have full cover, way too expensive and doesn't really seem worth the money for now. The full cover would cost another 1200 - 2400 euro's a year and we probably only spend about 600 euro's on doctors and dentist and you get 70% of that back.

We have really good quality hospital cover though, which is about 60e a month from Axa. and was really useful when I had an op a few years back.

The OP is reaching retirement age, and the older you get, the more often health problems arise, and you need to consult specialists. IMO a Mutuelle is advisable, as the over-60s often need sessions with the kiné, blood tests, examinations, etc... and the non-reimbursed 30% would otherwise take a big chunk out of their pocket.

I agree, I didn't take that retirement info on for some reason.

Although I did look at changing ours as our eldest daughter needs orthodontal work. And the amount you get back still wasn't worth it. It's all in the %'s!

And I have just had a series of blood test etc done didn't work out that much.

You are right though, it depends how much you are going to use it. I think for us four, a decent mutuelle you're looking at 300e at least a month.
