Classic French Films - 'Le Chat'
Rather late notice in the day I'm afraid, but for those who appreciate Classic French films there is one on tonight (Sun 5th Dec) on French TNT channel Direct 8 at 20:40 hrs.
This is a profound, very slow-moving film about human relations, and tells the tale of an elderly couple where the man stops communicating with his wife, whilst she still desperately longs for some affection. The only affection he shows is for the cat, which makes her.......well, that would be giving the plot away!
In the main roles, the performances of Jean Gabin and Simone Signoret are truly remarkable!
If you only like action films you'll dislike this.
The dialogue is slow, and there's relatively little of it (as Gabin hardly speaks to his wife) - so this is a film that could easily be enjoyed by someone with only a small knowledge of French.
Acting doesn't come greater than this. Imho brilliant! Retro French cinema at it's best.
Sorry for the late notice.
