Does anybody have knowledge or experience with being a contractor (for a British company) working a couple of days from the office in the UK and a couple of days at home in rented accommodation in France (where myself and daughters would be living) with regards to my husband paying taxes?

I have read before that you can't be taxed twice on the same income but if someone could tell us exactly what steps we need to follow and how it actually works we would be really grateful

Hi
I don't have direct experience but you can obtain advice from the DWP website.
If your home is in France then you will have to pay taxes and social contributions in France.
If your home is in the UK and you spend less than 183 days in France then you will pay your taxes in the UK.
If you have homes in both countries then the 183 day rule applies with respect to employment.
The UK and France each have their own rules for tax residency which differ.
In the case of a stand-off between the two tax authorities then the taxation treaty between the two countries takes precedence over the national laws.
This is a very complex area and I think that you should pay for specialist tax advice rather than rely on a public forum for anything other than initial opinions.
Good luck
