Seriously though, I have held a carte de sejour for a few years and it is really useful. It runs out May 2009 and I will definitely try to extend it.
Well hopefully I've fallen on good times. My girlfriend has her gran's old Parisian apartment in the 16th district, and the only thing to pay is for food and bills - probably just as well, as life is so expensive here! We do split everything down the middle though.

Well I dutifully carry round my passport, have no carte de séjour and no other photo ID but I have been asked for the document in the back of my Credit Agricole cheque book which is fine. within a short while of my arriving here in france some furniture which i had ordered was successfully delivered even though my house has no number or name. Seems they just asked at the Mairie and the Maire knew me before I knew him.
Although you can't get Cartes de Séjour now I think a courtesy call at the loca mairie can only go down in your favour even if they do politely send you away. As Brits we're not always aware of the full range of services the Mairie can provide.

Hi
We have been living here in northern France for the past 7 years, from retirement, initially we obtained a red carte de sejour, which is outdated since
but we still use it as identity(Cheques etc). Until we get a British one of course.Do not worry; it's a good country, though expensive for us,we are well respected. A British Asian
