Can anyone out-talk French women ?
This isn't a complaint, it's more like admiration.
Not long after lunch two elderly French ladies started chatting right outside my house (I don't know either of them). They're still at it. It must be getting on for 2 hours if not longer.
We've done sons and their jobs, daughters, babies, weddings, funerals, mutual acquaintances, holidays, prices.... and still going strong
I hope they've finished by the time I want to go to sleep or I'll have to shut the windows.

They were saying their goodbyes a few minutes ago but it's sparked off again - must have forgotten to tell each other something really important
There was one in Aldi last week (not one of this pair), making no effort to get on with packing her shopping and paying, and the cashier actually had to ask her to stop rabbiting on and get her purse out because there were people waiting First time I've heard a cashier ask that in so many words.

I live in an area in the UK popular with Jewish families.
We have several Jewish neighbours.
Perhaps you can work out why Jewish men don't say much.

If they had been on the phone to him on Friday afternoon/evening when his wife was harrying him home before dusk they might have had a different picture.

I very much doubt it.
Our observations indicate that the two worst places to encounter this "talent" is in the post office, where they simply have to know what every friend/neighbour is doing and way and of course include the counter clerk in the discussions.
The second is in the market where they have their once a week meeting and the sole topic of conversation seems to be the latest malady and how many pills they are currently taking, or, better still who is in hospital and why.
Some years ago I was going out with a neighbour to a ladies lunch. As she left the house her husband said to her "Don't do all the talking" Her reply was that there was no chance of that because Annie G would be there and so no-one would get a word in edgeways.
Rather good for someone who is not good at small talk in either language - I only ever needed the odd word and a few expressive shrugs.
