British child shot by Dutch neighbor near Quimper

British child shot by Dutch neighbor near Quimper
The little British girl shot in a village near Quimper over a dispite about trees and a hedge has had several articles published in English news reports.
The shooter was 71. He also shot the father in the head but he hasn't died and is still in hospital.
The familywere out having a barbecue and the British Dad had just been cutting down some of the hedges berween the properties. The Dutchmans wife, a Belgian hid the gun after her husband shot the family and so she is also under arrest for the shootings.
Horrific scene. Evidently the Mayor says she would have done something, like call the police if she had only known. But she also admitted knowing there was dispute that had been filed at her office.
I doubt the mother and little sister of the family will ever recover mentally from the terror of it.

Two families lives ruined over nothing. You have to be cautious about getting into arguments with neighbours specially in countries where a lot of folks have guns.

Aren't there a lot less guns in France than in North America though. I think child shootings are rare in Europe.
Would it have got better if the mayor and officials made some decisions about the hedge and trees setting a boundry so there would have been an end to the dispute years ago? It was written that it had come in as a registered complaint shortly before the current mayor took office. She admitted they had received the paper work and then she was vague about what was done. I just thought French officials would have been better at negotiationg between filed boundry and neighbor disputes and so have gotten a more peaceful resolution?
