I asked on the Spain forum but it doesn't look as if I will get a reply so anyone here know a site I can book a train from Barcelona to Banyul.
The sites I've tried don't work for me.

I dont normally duplicate just want to make sure reg gets it and i have added some info for the local route.
Try SNCF here...BARCELONA SANTS to PERPIGNAN then Perpignan to Banyul do you mean the Banyul sur mer, it will be a local train from Perpingnan to Banyul only takes about 35 mins back down Book local Ter SNCF tickets HERE
Banyul Sur Mer code postal and Train Station Code is 66650 so high speed to Barcalona to Perpingnan then slowish Ter SNCF train to Banyul Sur Mer

I live in Catalunia just south of the border with France. It is appalling but both RENFE and SNCF act as if the towns on each side of the border - Figueras (E) and Le Bou (F) northwards - do not exist as far as train connections are concerned. In fact pretty much the same thing applies to bus connections. You'd think being so near and sharing so much in common, public transport would be good - in fact it doesn't exist.
The suggestion to train Barcelona - Perpignan and then use a local train/bus is all I can think of. And don't expect the low prices that you get in Spain and France, and don't expect any times to match up !

Before your post we had just about decided that train was too difficult and to go by car.
Your post confirms that.
