Default Mobile roaming in Thailand?

I've read in various places about the Thai govt having strict regulations regarding mobile phones.

Does anyone know if its possible to use a non-thai world-band phone with a foreign account in Thailand (i.e. a T68 with service from Orange in the UK) through roaming agreements?

I'm sure the rates would be horrid, but I'm wondering if it works...

Thanks

No problem. I travel there from Singapore quite often and have never had a problem
with using the mobile phone with roaming. Just as an FYI I too have a T68i

I took my (Australian) mobile phone with me to Thailand earlier this year. I had to
organise roaming with my telco before I left, and was billed on my return.

It worked perfectly well and was cheaper than using hotel phones. The rates are the
same as those paid by the local users. I used it for booking accommodation on a
day-to-day basis as I travelled around, and for calling home.

Apart from anything else, it gives a good sense of security in a foreign country.
Keep it well concealed, though, and switched off with password protection while you
are out and about.

It should work just fine as long as Orange have enabled your account for roaming.

There never was a problem using foreign handsets while roaming in Thailand. You're
probably thinking about the issue where the Thai networks disallowed foreign phones
from being used with local SIM cards. They no longer do this, so that isn't a
problem any more.
