Sue the Moderator - thanks very much for deleting my posting and telling me that I am being unfair to the OP. Actually I am the OP and this is my thread. Maybe you'd like to explain how I am being unfair to myself
Frankly, this has been the liveliest thing that's been going on in the Far East subforum for quite a long time and I've been particularly enjoying SvampBob and Legless's postings, even if they have a pop at the country I'm living in.
I wasn't online yesterday so I cannot read some of the postings that have been deleted so there's really no point in my carrying on in this thread of mine.

I think Iv hinted some reasons here and there though.
# Just like everybody els I have a limited budget.
# From my research on the net there are cheaper places in Malaysia.
# Penang with its beauty and everything els... is an Island far away and
there is no nightlife to talk about. Although I have had some good times on
upper Penang road. But that's it!
# I like Bangkok very much. But Thailand is out of reach now days with all
there new regulations and difficulties getting new Turistvisa or even doing
visa runs. http://www.thaivisa.com/
# I have only been to Penang! Westerners are living allover Malaysia. Penang
is not the only option and I want the big city lights at lest ones a week.
There is this suburb to KL called Petaling Jaya. From my research its looks
pretty decent. 10 minutes away with the Commuter to KL city. Nearby I can
have my weekly ransom of meatballs and lingonberry at IKEA!

Rents are like the ones on Penang.
Malaka is another one that needs more investigation on.
One member here on the forum gave me the idea fore that place, TheTroubadour!
Only 2 ours bus drive to KL. Malaka even has a Burger King and ones awhile I
got to have that fix. McDonald's don't fix that urge!

# One nother aspect is my love for adventure. The Airport were you can travel to
basically any place in the region is south of KL. All The embassy's is in KL.
These are some reasons way I don't have Penang on my primary list, for now
anyway, or baby not or maby something els or.... well, these are my to Pence
and one Puond of thinking!

For those who have not been to Penang, they might have mistakenly thought that Penang is just a village and all about beaches. Although Penang is an island; it is in fact, Malaysia's second largest city after Kuala Lumpur.
Perhaps, an interative satelite map will help one have an idea on how Penang looks like.

Edit.
Wooops...myclifton, your posting was similar to mine.
I was writing wile you were submitting. Touche!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just want to add... that Penang is developing at a very fast speed. They are
building high rise apartment blocks very rapidly.
Penang (Betel nut) is booming and is the second larges city. I have read that
things are going to change on the nightlife scene
soon and that the people in power wants more truism and lots of more
entertainment for everybody.... In a near future!
Like you Dreamer, I prefer to live with the buzz-fuzz from a big city and beaches
on holidays!
One day, I know, Penang is were I live!

Hi all,
I just got back to BKK last night and I have been reading through the thread. To be quite honest, whilst I was away in Vientiane I was considering not coming back on here again, but seeing as it has been cleared up now and gotten back on track, I decided to post again.
Thanks for the backing me up those of you who did, I was beginning to wonder what lies I was going to be accused of the next time that I read this thread.
I got my visa okay, but as usual I have to leave again in two months time, so in mid-May I shall be back in Penang. If anyone is there then, I would be only too happy to have a beer with you somewhere there. I always stay at the Blue Diamond hotel on Chulia Street, Georgetown there and they have live music playing every evening starting at 9pm until the early hours of the morning, so I really never leave the place once I arrive there.
Thanks again for getting this thread back on track and giving me a little faith in people again.
Cheers
Legless

I was just losing faith in people again, with all of the problems that I already have, I could really do without this BS on here too. I would really like to meet anyone positive on here sometime if I could, even though I am living the life of a recluse now, deep down inside I am still a very sociable person with the right kind of people.

Cheers for now

Hi Leggless!
Welcome back.... Me to have been to Laos many times only to get that
sticker in to the passport. Very tiresome!
Received my visa today from the embassy here in Stockholm. Free of
charge. I suspect you got yours for free also. I think they give it away
now to get the tourism flow back in to the country.
Yeas, I think the Blue Diamond hotel on Chulia Street is a good place.
Good atmosphere outside to enjoy a beer and listen to music. Well,
last time it was a man trying to sing and play... rather enjoyable!
Chulia Street is one of many food hawkers places at night. One of
my favorites is "Wan Tan Mee".
Cheers

Guys, a question about when you do visa runs, don't the authorities at the borders ask you how you're going to support yourself financially b4 they give you visas?
