Default purchasing a car in europe

can anyone give me some info. regarding purchasing a car in europe. what would be the best country or city to purchase a used vehicle (preferably a VW westphalia camper or staition wagon -2 adults, 2 kids touring europe for a year!) coming from canada what paperwork other than an intl. drivers license and obviously passports etc. would we need. looking at other threads insurance is quite expensive, approx what are we looking at 1st for a decent used vehicle and 2nd how much for insurance.
thanks for your time

I think that you'll find that, just like in most other countries, you can't register a vehicle wthout insurance, and you can't get insurance without a local licence, and you can't get a licence without an address (a real address, not a PO Box, ... and in any event it could take weeks or even months to get a road test, which is also much harder than in the US (& Canada???) and passing it would be far from guarenteed) and you can't get an address without, at very least renting an apartment. In a foreign country doing any of the above will be very difficult, if not impossible, without having a visa to live there.

I like your idea, I just don't think that you can make it work.
