Default UK Electricians working in Europe

Dear Members,

My UK company is looking to do some electrical works in western Europe. The work involves installation of electrical sub-meters for a UK client who have retail stores in Europe.

Our engineers are 17th edition qualified UK electricians. Are they allowed to do electrical works in western Europe.

Do we have to follow any local electrical regulations and/or UK electricians have to undertake a course in each country?

Any help from would be greatly appreciated.

Since 'Western Europe' covers many countries, I would suggest you make a list of all countries you are hoping to work in, then use google or similar to find out what requirements each country has regarding electrical work. Your 'engineers' may be UK qualified, but may not be familiar with the regulations and requirements in any other country let alone multiple other countries.

DIN (Deutsche Industrienorm) is more common than British Standard. It probably varies from country to country. Do NOT assume that you can just do it the British Way !

Certainly not in Spain, where the ring main isn't heard of.

No, there are no ring mains, unlike in the UK.
