A Grade Electrical Questions in Victoria!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hey, Its my first time on here because im in need of some answers! I have been in Melbourne about 6 months now and want to gain my A Grade qualification. I have my restricted licience and wonder if anyone could help me with my questions.

# Can you still go down the peer route in SA and then transfer over.I spoke to them today and they said you can. Im thinking of doing correspondance from home then going down there for 4 days for the exams?
#Apart from the AS/NZS 3000 regs book , what other books do i need to buy if any?

Without the A grade its so difficult to find work and so i need to get qualified ASAP!

Cheers

hi there,
some feedback suggests that the VIC licencing board along with the QLD one are refusing to issue licences to sparks who have gone down the PEER route. Under the terms of mutual recognition you can work in any State with another State's licence, but when you look at the job adverts most employers stipulate that you must hold the respective licence of the State that you are working in.
A mate of mine who is a Foreman for Southern Cross Electrical in QLD has told me that he has half a dozen sparks working for him with SA licences and that I wouldn't have that much trouble finding work with an SA licence in QLD.
In any event from September 1 2012 the licencing boards in all States will start issuing a national licence and State licences will be phased out.
Regards Derren

Hey derren,

Yeah I heard they were going to nationalise it all. If that's the case I think I will go down the peer route and hope I can transfer it over. Even with it nationlised Victoria will still keep the way they liceince their sparkys.

Cheers
