Not granted. Just logged on and this is what it says in the decision.
I dont know what to say other than i'm f#ckin livid. This basically prevents me from working as a spark .
I sent apprentice papers, certificates 17th ed, o.n.c in electrical & electronic engineering, Authorised person for Lv, copies of last 5 jib Approved cards, References, Job history working for james scott , drake &scull, scottish power, t clarke etc. And sent 3 job senarios.
Some serious words will have to be said on monday and i ask myself what was the point of the fu~ckin vetasses test in blackburn that cost us all £1000.
Will keep you all posted. At least here i can go to beach with kids and try and forget about it.

Hi Johnny,
Mate, I feel for you. That's a bit of a worry. After sending all that info. Surely it would at least warrant a trade test. I take it you get an opportunity to talk to one of the assessors to find out why your application was unsuccessful?
It will be very interesting to hear what they say.
The only explanation I can think of right now is that they refused on the grounds that you have already been granted an OTSR by VETASSESS.
I've read a few posts in the past where people have been refused because of this and yet others have been granted despite this. Did you include your VETASSESS results in your ARTC application?
Kind Regards Derren

OUCH!!!

I suppose this is the biggest fear of all, makes it all the more wrong that they are saying you have to be living in Australia before applying, to find out you can't work in your trade up to 3 months after arriving just isn't fair.

Fingers crossed you can sort something out tomorrow, good luck

Well done mate,
Downloaded letter today and while they recognise my quals as an electrician in the uk i apparently have not given any evidence of my day to day workings since 1987 when my apprenticeship finished. Tryed to call and held in que for 10 mins so decided to drive up to 115 Grenfell st the address on there web. Dont bother , a waste of time they dont know why address is on it. So then went to skill recognition on currie st and spoke to a decent bloke who took all my details and have to meet another bloke who has dealt with this problem before. Got home and then emailed TRA to basically say i thought they were out of order. Waiting on reply.

I am just a bit confused, so you've got "offshore technical skills record" from vetasses, right? Who can stop you then to come over here in WA, apply in Energy Safety for ETL 2 weeks course and pick up your license in a few weeks time after.

Here is the form http://www.commerce.wa.gov.au/energy.../R018_0711.pdf

Cheers mate

well i've only been in adelaide for 2 weeks and just got this decision . so i'm still in a bit of shock and have to consider all my options. Do you mean move to WA or just go for this cource. Dont you have to be a resident in Wa to do this and it would be a Wa licence you would get which i would have to swap to SA.
Your confused, My HEIDS ALL over the SHOP
I'm already booked into peer for wiring regs.
I think i'll have to wait till i meet this bloke at the skills recognition and see what he says.

thanks for the link mate.

I meant do the course in WA, take the license and transfer it where you want (eg. SA, VIC etc), regarding the energy safety form you don't need an ARTC in WA if you have vetasses OTSR.

Hi Johnny,
So were the job references not detailed ie they just stated that you were employed as an electrician, with dates and no more?
Also, you can still attend PEER with an OTSR ,it means that you'll have to do 'on the job' gap training to get an SA licence. But if you can get your ARTC sorted out then you can get your SA licence as soon as it's granted. Deyan's recommendation is also a viable alternative.
Hope you get it sorted.
Regards Derren

No my last job ref (2 years) stated tasks ie Emergency light checks, RCD tests, Fire alarm checks, Pat testing and small install and i outlined install of handriers in toilets- running cable , termination , testing, tools used, materials etc. Also prev ref stated day to day working and once again wrote job out for install of power &lighting in office block in london- cutting rod , unistrut, fixing to ceiling , install of trunking, wiring of all services and testing, tools & materials. Also install with scottish power of storage heating- same again with info. ref for them is 20 year old so i wont be able to get the letter heads they ask for . Also james scott & drakes are no more so same problem.

I am waiting for reply so will keep in touch.

Thanks deyan for info.

Sorry to hear things aren't going smoothly Johnny. Hope you can sort something out. Didn't James Scott become AMEC? Couldn't you contact them?

yeah, they became part of AMEC. When I AMEC for a reference they stated that they don't give references unless requested by a third party organisation, but it might still be worth a try.

Well sorry for not posting for ages but just got my decision and elect mechanic been granted. I reapplied on 14 th oct and it has been granted this week. I basically appealed the original decision and sent more certified references and job senarios. They already had my certs and qualifications. I had to pay the $300 again but i should get this back.
I've done the regs cource so now its full steam ahead for licence.
Luckily enough i've been working as the firm were happy to honour the fact that i'd done the regs and had all my jib cards and certs from britain, but it really is pathetic that people are being put in this position after being granted a visa and sponsored under the trade as an electrician .
If what i'm reading now that you can only apply from aus it makes it even more of a joke as not many people can afford to wait 3/4 months for them to make a decision and be out of work for this period.

Allthe best johnny
