wireless internet near paphos ?
My father spends half the year in Cyprus, near paphos and doesnt have a landline phone.
Ive been trying to get him to find a wireless isp tomake it easier for us to communicate since phoninh his cyprus mobile costs a fortune, same when he calls me.
Does anyone know whats available to get him online without a phone line ?

On my latest visit to Limassol I was pleasantly surprised to find that my laptop received signal in many places I frequented. A few meters from the water with seagulls swarming the beach and there I was connected to the world. It was a blast! There are many establishments that have wireless and are considered hotspots. In this particular coffee shop across the public garden the signal arrived from the restaurant La Mer--unfortunately by my departure it seems they disconnected their modem. I would get a faint signal from an office in the area but it was not reliable.
Its worth taking the laptop to any place. Hotspots are mushrooming. It might be that wireless might be password protected and you might be out of lack--normally this will be the case for offices. I the case of cafes, restaurants, pubs, hotels and some other unlikely sources (water park!) either there will be free access with no need for password or a password is involved and you can then request for it to be given to you.
Now, what seems to be common is also this: businesses provide wireless access through cytanet--this is the case anywhere in Cyprus. For less than 3 euros a month one can purchase CYTANET Wi-Fi zone WIRELESS ACCESS which enables connection at select places who choose to offer internet to their client through this way: Here is a link for available hot spots in this fashion: http://www.cytanet.com.cy/Services/c...wifi/hotspots/
However, I am surprised you say that mobile phone costs a fortune. I don't know, it might be that my choice of using SoEasy prepaid phone card is an exception. I would use it to call the States and it was peanuts--ridiculously cheap.

Texting is great - even cheaper. A €5 top up card with SoEasy, usually lasts me 2 weeks. Depends on how long your on the phone for really, is suppose.
