Syria has been a "problem" for quite some time, with atrocities and mass killings. The thing that has woken everyone up is the use of chemical weapons during the night, yet no one will admit to using them (probably didn't realise what a mass effect there would be and the knock on shock and horror of the rest of the world.)
But who are going to be the recipients of the kind attention of American gung-ho ?? Is it government forces - in which case it can and will be seen by some as action against the "legal" government. Or will it be the "rebels" who oppose that "legal" government - in which case it will be seen as condoning the actions of government forces.
The US has a chequered history of interceding on behalf of rebels in the overthrow of "legal" governments - to find that in the end the people in the country have been no better off, sometimes worse. And it hasn't done the interests of the USA any good either.
Whilst the UK has been forced into taking a step back (well done to the MP's who obviously understand that Britains armed forces cannot take on another front - although we do have a small RN taskforce out there at the moment) they are at least talking more about aid and assistance which will be more use than bombing already shellshocked civilians.
However for once France is saying they want to be involved.
But in the end it will all have to do with OIL.
Britain OUT is my motto

Because his breath smells ?
Or because he doesn't answer the phone when Obama calls ??
better the devil you know than the one you might get replacing him - as I indicated earlier.
rebels wanted the Shah of Persia/Iran deposed, when it happened that Ayatollah guy moved in - and that was the start of what we now have.
although Kipling couldn't see any resolution in Afghanistan.
and Pakistan is now providing the training camps that Ghadaffi used to provide to the likes of the IRA.

The other thing which could indicate that things are not as they are being portrayed......due to this article being removed after briefly appearing in the Daily Mail UK...one has to type into web search......Why Has This Massive Story of Global Importance Been Removed.....from this it appears that the whole thing has been staged from the outset......looks like we are all pawns on one massive chess board.

Re: Will you be Safe
Just calm down everybody. We in Cyprus are just going about our business as usual. This is a Cyprus thread, and we have some connection to the problems with Syria, but all this talk about scenarios in Syria should be taken elsewhere on this forum.
Cyprus has arranged to take up to 10,000 refugees per day from Syria, provided 10,000 are shipped out in the next two days.
The British bases have not been given permission to launch attacks on Syria.
All this scaremongering is just hype by the media, just like the Cyprus bailout.

Good to know people are going about their business in the normal way hopefully they will not be rudely awakened ...the British Bases are not going to attack Syria... we know that ... extra aircraft etc have arrived to defend the bases so obviously someone somewhere feels this is necessary.
This topic has every reason to be discussed on the Cyprus forum ...why not? ...Being located close to Syria and so many British there with family etc...
There is a concern.....
Be pointless discussing it on a Syria Forum.

Re: Will you be Safe
Cyprus House of Representatives has approved by majority a resolution against a Syrian military intervention proposing instead the destruction of any chemicals by a UN special task force. At the same time the resolution asks the British Bases not to participate in any way in military operations in the Middle East or anywhere else.

extra aircraft arriving ? how many are for defence and how many for other things - such as intelligence and in flight refuelling ??
start worrying when normal commercial aircraft take longer to get from A - B due to the instigation of No Fly Zones due to miliary operations.
But then, isn't there an EU/NATO exercise going on at the moment in the Eastern Med ? and that was planned last year !!

Re: Will you be Safe
We are here on the ground, and we spent the day on the beach, not hiding in the mountains.
Tomorrow, we are having a BBQ, life goes on here, and we are not looking over our shoulders.
Political note, Obama struggling to get a yes vote, Cameron got voted out, Russia produced evidence that it was the rebels that used the chemical weapons.
You can either listen to the hype in the British media, or listen to us here in Cyprus.
