For anyone sending away for a police report from UK whilst out of the country .. I received my proof of identity back today (about 10 days) with a letter stating that they would process within 40 days (the norm). I had sent everything registered post and they sent back in the same way.

I am now living in Georgia, when I needed a new Police Certificate from the
UK, I got a friend of mine to call in the local police HQ. He asked if they
had versions of the application forms they could send via email to me and
gave them my email address. They were kind enough to send the required forms
to me in MS Word format. I have the Word copies of these forms and the email
address they should be sent to. If anyone is applying to the Nottinghamshire
Police for their certificate, I'd be happy to send them on to you.

Great to hear you've finally sorted it out Gigiola. Good luck for the rest of the process.
