Hi all,

I read one of the thread in this form about a case which is very similar to what my sister is facing in Toronto. She has applied for a UK VISA in Toronto. Originally, she thought the processing would be done in New York. However, after she submitted her application using the faster processing method at the highest premium, she found out that the VISA application has been sent to UK home center for processing (in Sheffield). Calling the Sheffield center did not help as they cannot discuss the progress of her case. Calling the Toronto agency did not help (or visiting them in person) as they told her they cannot disclose any of the applicants information. So she has been suck for more than a week in Toronto. She needs to fly out this week to attend my wedding in HK. The thing is that her resident card has already been sent and received by her company lawyer in UK. So it seems her VISA has been approved but nobody is telling her that she can get her passport back. Just hoping someone may be able to give us some tips here and help her out.

Which visa did she apply for and when? What passport does she hold?

The VISA which allows her towards citizenship in UK. She holds a Canadian passport. She started the process May 7th.

And which visa is that? If she has a Canadian passport she doesn't need a visa just to attend your wedding.

Edit: Sorry I read HK as UK.

Why would you start an immigration process which requires sending in your passport on 7 May if you need it to go to HK end of May.?

There was no chance of getting passport back in that time.

Of course she does. Whatever UK visa she's applied for, her timing was a bit off.

Sorry to hear this. For future visa applications she should consider purchasing the "keep my passport' service. For $75USD the VAC allows you to keep your passport after your appointment in Toronto, and most applicable to frequent fliers or those who need to apply for more than one visa.
