Default planning to move back to the UK in a year

Hi All,

I'm a UK citizen and my wife is Jordanian, living and working in Dubai, we have 2 kids with british passports, we are planing to move back to the UK in a year time, my question is, is it possible to buy a business in the UK from now and start paying taxes for a year, and then as soon as i decide to go back, i will apply for my wife straight away, i don't want to waste 6 months working in the UK before i apply for my wife!

Thank you

Welcome to BE, you will find lots of good information on here and the posters are friendly. If you have any problems please do not hesitate to contact the moderators for this forum, Jerseygirl and Bevs. Please read the BE Wiki regarding financial requirements.
You will have to have been earning 18,600 a year for the six months before moving and have a job offer, in writing, earning the same amount starting within 3 months of arriving. Self employed usually requires 12 months of audited accounts before it can be used as a financial basis, you might be better off using the savings route of £62,500 in a bank account under your control for the 6 months prior to applying instead of buying the business.

I would agree with mikelincs - if you have enough savings to buy a business in the UK then I would suggest you should have enough to meet the £62,500 threshold to meet the financial requirements through savings.

Thank you mikelincs and BritinParis for your reply, you guys are right, it's easier to do the saving route ( 62,500 ), but i don't have that much of a saving, the business i'm going to buy or to be more clear( be a partner in ) , will cost me somewhere between 30-40k, so if i go down that route (self employed) do i need to be resident in the uk for the 12 months? because again my plan is to spend one more year here in Dubai and apply straight away when i go back to UK.

Although the business will be in the UK and paying tax, you won't be, so I doubt it would qualify as self-employment in the UK.
