income requirement?
Hi all,
On the spouse visa application system it asks for the following to be included in an employer's letter as part of the evidence for the financial requirement:
"the gross annual salary after income tax and National Insurance contributions have been paid"
But this does not even make sense - gross income is income BEFORE tax...
Is this just a typo or does anyone think this is the correct meaning of gross income?

Maybe they could have said ' the annual salary amount net of tax and NI'!

Re: income requirement?
Hi Shirtback,
It is from the current online application system on the .gov.uk website (which is a beta system, apparently). If you create an application, under the documents tab, the following is required (among other things) - I quote:
A letter from the employer(s) who issued the payslips confirming
1. the employment;
2. the gross annual salary after income tax and National Insurance contributions have been paid;
3. how long the employment has been/was held; and
4. the type of employment (permanent, fixed-term contract or agency)
In fact, this contradicts the example on page 9 of Appendix FM 1.7: Financial Requirement (May 2016), which interprets 'gross income' as meaning that what is counted towards the income requirement is the income before NI and tax are deducted.

Re: income requirement?
That has to be a typo, otherwise the income requirement would be extremely high and harsh. At least I hope so
