Form MN1 – Registration of children under 18 as a British Citizen
Children born abroad to British parent: section 3 (2) – Qualify if born outside UK; either parent is British at the time of child’s birth; have lived in the UK for 3 years, no absences exceeding 270 days; etc.
Is anyone able to confirm whether the child (under 18) also needs to apply to the Home Affairs to retain their South African Citizenship, prior to applying for registration as a British Citizen using form MN1?
I know adults have to apply to retain their citizenship before obtaining another, otherwise they lose it.
Is it the same for children under 18?
Any advice or feedback from people who have gone through this process would be appreciated.

Minors do not need to apply for retention of citizenship.
