If your mother was born in the UK and you were born abroad after 1983 then you are already a British citizen by descent. You only need to apply for your British passport.

You can also apply for British consular birth registration as an official record of your birth and British citizenship but this is optional and not required in order to become a British citizen or apply for a British passport.

If I understand correctly, an original UK birth certificate can get legalized (apostilled) without being certified by a solicitor or notary public in the UK beforehand. Can an original consular birth registration certificate be legalized by the same way (as UK birth certificate)?
