Hi, my wife made her ILR application yesterday along with an exemption for the life in the UK test based on disability. She is waiting for the doctor to complete this form, if for whatever reason the exemption isn’t accepted, does UKVI usually provide a chance to take the life in the uk test?

My wife is stressed that for whatever reason if the doctor doesn't fill it in correctly or if UKVI don't accept the form then her application will be denied.

Thanks for any advice.

I've never seen an exemption for the Life In The UK test under disability grounds. This is from the Gov webpage

Thank you for the reply. My wife is legally blind so sometimes misses bit's of information I don't think she saw that.

What would happen then you think if they don't accept the exemption, would they give her a certain amount of time to take the test? I hope they wouldn't automatically deny the application for ILR?

Waiting until you had received a letter from the doctor before applying would’ve been the less stressful option. She’ll need either the letter or a test pass by the time she attends her biometrics appointment.

We were thinking we should perhaps send a letter or email to the UKVI to explain the situation, do you think this would be a good idea?

It is possible to receive a disability exemption for the Life in the UK Test. Being legally blind, however, would most likely result in a test accommodation, not an exemption. The completed exemption form also should have been submitted with the application.

The form states that there are multiple test preparation formats, including audio. The doctor would have to explain why your wife is unable to prepare for the test using the audio preparation material. The doctor would also have to explain why your wife is unable to take the test in audio or other formats, with the knowledge that the test center accommodates test takers with disabilities. Why not ask her doctor about this as soon as possible and then you will know whether she will have an exemption or if she needs to apply for an accomodation.

To avoid further issues, your wife should request an accommodation at the time of test booking.
