Citizenship by descent question
My partner was born in Australia to British parents (married at the time of his birth) in 1970. I've done a search on here and read through the relevant posts, and also checked out the UK Border Agency website and now am confused
We've got a certified copy of his father's birth certificate and his father's passport with my partner's name in it (as they visited the UK when he was young). Do we need to get his parents' marriage certificate? Also the Border Agency website says that anyone born before 1 January 1983 needs to supply their mother's birth certificate
Also can anyone please explain this in easy to understand wording!
"If you were born outside the United Kingdom before 1 January 1983, you became a British citizen if, immediately before that date, you were a citizen of the United Kingdom and Colonies and had the right of abode in the United Kingdom. (this applies as if they'd stayed in the UK and given birth to him there he'd be a British citizen)..
You may have had citizenship of the United Kingdom and Colonies by descent from a father who had that citizenship, or because you were registered or naturalised as a citizen of the United Kingdom and Colonies."
(this applies too as his father was British)..
Is he a British citizen by birth or descent and does it make a difference? (He wont be having any more kids)..Can he just apply for a UK passport or does he need to apply for a visa of some kind?
It doesn't take much to confuse me on a good day so this has me in a bit of a tizz
Thanks in advance
Edit: posted this in the wrong forum, sorry should be in returning to uk bit...

Re: Citizenship by descent question
Husband was born in Aus to British parents and didn't need to get a visa, just applied for a British Passport and got it. He was born in 1960 but didn't get his UK Passport until he was in his 20s, a few years after he got his first Australian Passport. Hope that helps.

Ok, thanks for that. Did he have to provide his mother's or father's birth certificate or both?
