Can you travel internationally (not UK) in between online app and biometrics
Hi everyone,
In view of the issues with the US ASCs and biometrics appts for spouse visa applications, I was wondering if anyone knows if you’re able to submit your online visa application and then travel outside the US (but not to the UK, obviously) if you’ve booked your biometrics appointment 2-3weeks out. For example, is it a problem if you fly to Canada in between your online application submission and your biometrics appointment?
Also, for uploading docs to vfs, do you upload docs immediately after you submit your online application or do you upload docs after your biometrics appointment?
Thank you!

So long as you have a passport you can travel wherever you want and it won't have any impact on getting a visa, … Well traveling to Syria or Afghanistan might, but travel to almost anywhere else will have no impact on a visa application.

No, that wouldn’t be an issue. You upload your documents after you submit your application but before your biometrics. Once you give your biometrics your application is locked and you can no longer upload anything further.

Hi Pulaski and BiP,
Thanks for your help! Good to know.
Ahh okay. I didn’t realise that. Am I right in thinking that you’re prompted by vfs to scan and upload all your supporting documents after your online application submission?
Regarding scanning/uploading and mailing to the NY scanning hub; we’re planning to use priority service. Do we scan and upload the priority receipt as well prior to the biometrics? And are we to upload the stamped biometrics appointment after it’s done or are we to mail that?
And sorry for asking this, but I can’t find a straight answer. Does the 30 WD timeframe start from your online submission date or your biometrics appt date or the date when the docs are received by an ECO or is it something different entirely?

Hi BiP,
Many thanks for your responses and information.
I have some further questions regarding payslips and employer letters.
I work for the NHS and have been employed by 3 different NHS Trusts in the past 12 months (as part of my specialist training programme as a doctor, i rotate NHS Trusts every 6-12months). I have a letter from Health Education England (central body dealing with my training) detailing that i rotate trusts as part of my training programme. I am planning to get a letter from each of the 3 employers' HR, as well as getting 3 letters from each payroll department authenticating my payslips (i am also planning to get the slips stamped). Do the details on the gov site apply to the employer letter AND the payslip letter or just the employer letter? Is the payslip letter just a short two-three sentences confirming that the slips are genuine?
I was issued a payslip for March 2019 by my previous Trust for working 01-03 March (due to ending employment at this trust on 03 March) of under GBP1550. This is in addition to my 6 full payslips (inclusive Sept-Feb (where all earnings were >GBP1550)). I was issued a full payslip (of >GBP1550) by my new Trust also for March 2019. I am planning to ask the payroll dept to confirm this payslip is only for 01-03 March in their letter. Will that be acceptable? i will have to provide 13 payslips (two for March 2019) in that case, is that right? Do you think this will be problematic?
"(b) A letter from the employer(s) who issued the payslips at paragraph 2(a) confirming:

The letter from each employer should include a few sentences regarding the authenticity of the payslips if they are print-offs and ideally each payslip (and your last P60 if electronic) should then be stamped as well.
I would just provide the thirteen payslips. Each employer letter should list your start and end dates so it should be pretty obvious what’s occurred.

Thank you BiP for your help.
I now have a mix of stamped original payslips and stamped and signed/dated print-offs of payslips for the last 12 months.
I have another question. In the last 12 months, I was erroneously overpaid 2 months salary by one employer, which I paid back. The matter is closed. I am planning also include these payslips in the application (as they appear in my bank statements) and ask the employer to add a sentence to clarify this error and that the matter is closed in the payslip authentication letter. Would this tick all boxes to avert potential complications?
Also. Regarding the biometrics appointment. If the appt is at an ASC, do they take the passport there and then, or do you keep your passport and then have 5 working days from after the biometrics appt to send your passport and all supporting docs to the vfs scanning hub in NYC?

Not sure about the second question. I only typically deal with the VFS VACs in the US.
