British passport renewal questions

British passport renewal questions
Hi,
We are about to renew my husbands passport. Has anyone gotten UK passport pictures done in Manhattan recently? The people at Duane Reade and other Drug Stores here couldn't even get my US one right. I had to go to a photo shop. I saw a place called DOI photo . Has anyone used that? They also mention that you have a choice of light gray or cream background.
